not quite on topic ... but you get the idea.
and as for my 2 cents .. a drivers licence is indeed a form of identification, "PHOTO IDENTIFICATION!" .. if you can't see a persons face how are you to know that they are in fact the holder of the license in question... do you think for a second that a Muslim would be allowed to have her face covered in a passport photo?? .. of course not .. that would be stupid.
This entire debate hinges around the fact that a lot (not all) muslims in both NZ and Australia feel that they should be exempt from the laws of the country, simply because it conflicts with their religion.
They knew that was the case before they chose to immigrate, but once they arrive they think that they can use religion to flout the law.
If I rode without a helmet (as stupid as that is) and was ticketed for it, do you think i could use religion to get off?? .. hell no!
This is no different. people are made aware of the laws and customs and standards of a country before they move there, you cannot, once you arrive, start claiming that your culture is above the laws of the land, or that the laws (religious or otherwise) from the country you left for a better life are more important and should be obeyed to the detriment of the society that you are now a part of... that's just stupid! ... unless you can become a part of your new homeland go back to where you came from or harden the fuck up!!
ermall very interesting, but ---- to get back to Sheik Alhilali ----
since his ill-considered comments were published there have been prominent Australian Muslims on the box actually apologising for the offence he's continuing to cause and trying to at least partially counter the damage he has done ............. and many of his erstwhile supporters are distancing themselves from him
can't be all bad, no?
notwithstanding all that, if i met the jerk-off i'd probably grab his hand and shake it ['cause he'd probably have to cautorize it to cleanse it, me being an unclean woman and white[ish] to boot] before festooning him with pig-entrails ....................... but then, i can't TOLERATE intolerance![]()

Once again, confusing religious with a cultural issue. My personal view is that they should be bare headed, or at the most just the scarf covering the hair in any official photo. If you have any further confusion about which is cultural and which is religious, you can always ask.
There are moves underway here to start letting bikers go in to banks wearing full face helmets now - all in the name of equality![]()
What a difference indifference can make
Yep, have to agree......we worry about the stuff that does not in the whole scheme of things matter eh?
Sad that we let one Muslim woman who has an issue with having a full face photo eh.................funny thing is I seem to recall people having issues with photo licence in the first place............short memory syndrome?
