Some people take it too far, and the words may as well be traded for blatant groping, but if tuned well, like any good bike, it can provide physical/intellectual stimuli for both party's.
I used to work in pharmaceuticals, and worked in the purchasing dept with 3 stunningly beautiful women, who flirted with me, but in full knowledge of me being married, but it worked out fine, and in the end, I earned their trust, having never hit on any of them once, even though i flirted back. Some people take it too far, and ruin it for the masses.
I like flirting for the subtleties, it's a sport as much as anything, and played well, can be a shitload of fun. I think the dividing line is whether it's done a jovial/jesting manner out in the open for all to see, or done in a sleazy and secretive manner behind closed doors.
