Anything you pay monthly, can be used as a credit rating, as over time you have built up a rapport with these companies.
We didn't used to accept power or phone for credit checks as they're pretty much essential services that no one lets get cut off

Last time I had a check done on me they couldn't find any credit history for the same reason

And now I have to open an account to get some gas bottles filled... and they need - credit references...

    WTF?
The important question is... did you get the bottles filled, can you remember, it's been a while.

I can always think of some things that I get an account for - like from the bike shop, broadband connection, just put in a cat door, so thats another one I could use. I think we thought about it, there are always some accounts that we don't really tink about, but do have.

Thats bloody tragic, people paying off consumables such as tyres. I cant get my head around paying off a bike, let alone tyres.

    Question

OK, so this may seem like a dump question, but 'who' do you ask to find out your credit rating?
I know I'm in Aust., but they may be a similar organization here.

What makes a good or bad rating?

    Are they permanent?

As a company we've done it through GE for over 10 years, a few workshops we deal with also offer it on major jobs, eg: engine rebuilds
