    The style of youth

OK we got talking about NCEA yesterday, about how employers might feel about it etc and people like me, Motu, Jantar and Ixion have memories from further back than many others and you know I've been sharing some of my holiday pics with you.

Well here's one last pic from Summernats in Canberra. Please tell me your thoughts on how the young guy is dressed?

Should us older guys be trying to do likewise because have we missed some true spiritual or emotional benefit from having our trou hang down way below the waistband of our under wear?

Pity that bullshit 'gangsta' look wasn't nipped in the bud. Someone I heard of gets out the staplegun when he sees his teenagers trying it - that beltline heads north reeeeaal quick!!
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Alright...

You're dealing with a very particular socio-economic niche group, there. It's Summernats. It's a drag thingie. Therefore, it attracts a certain group of people -- the bogans and skaties and all those kind of people.

Go back into your youth -- not sure when that was, but for interests sake lets say it was when the punk movement was around. Go to a punk music concert or something. A specific event, targetted at a specific group of people. From the picture you get from there, can you infer that all teen-20s people dye their hair pink and get ridiculous and painful-looking piercings? Hate authority? Wear black and white makeup? No, of course not.

Being a young person of today, am I missing out on some true spiritual or emotional benefit from having my hair dyed green and my face pierced with a safety pin?

I would be very wary of calling on those things you're implying as a phenomenon of `today'. It's not. Go back and watch Rebel Without a Cause again.

The cigarette companies appear to be doing well from those four.

There were 2 "youths" in the Westfield shopping mall the other day. Both shirtless and hamming up the cool factor for all to see.

If only one of them could have looked at the back of his neck and upper back and seen the acne repository/farm that was there.....

I see what you're getting at, and to some extent I agree, but in other ways I don't.

I just laugh at the bulk of todays completely fashion-owned youth... yes owned, fashion totally owns them, it rapes and pillages them, because to be seen outside, as a male for instance, without your undies showing, is unthinkable. If you think about it, the same applied when I was younger, but for a completely different reasons obviously.

The other part that makes me laugh, is the hoodies for the guys, and those fluffy sleeved corduroy looking jackets for the girls, these get worn all year round.... fuck that, when it gets hot, the sweatshirts go into storage, because I am not such a dickhead victim that I have to wear a hoody in 28*C plus heat... haha you stupid fucks, you're the very epitome of conformity, even though you say you rebel so hard against it.

The Xerox machine these kids all come out of, needs a service, real bad.

Explore and Develop personal goals that contribute to well being.

People credited with this unit standard are able to: explore the concept of goal setting; develop plans for a long term goal; and develop strategies for coping with achievement and non-achievement.

In this unit standard long term refers to a goal that can be broken into components.

    Elements and Performance Criteria

    element 1

Explore the concept of goal setting.

    performance criteria

1.1 Exploration identifies situations in which goals can be set.

Range: school work, career choices, leisure activities, financial, physical well-being, mental and emotional well-being, spiritual well-being, social well-being.

1.2 Exploration identifies a range of characteristics of well-set goals.

    element 2

Develop plans for a long term goal.

    performance criteria

2.1 A long term goal is identified for a specific situation.

2.2 Specific short term goals are identified which contribute to the long term goal.

2.3 Factors are identified which could influence goal achievement.

Range: includes but is not limited to - barriers, existing personal resources available, additional resources required.

2.4 An action plan is developed to assist in achieving the long term goal.

    element 3

Develop strategies for coping with achievement and non-achievement.

    performance criteria

3.1 Strategies are developed for managing non-achievement of goals.

Range: includes but is not limited to - acknowledging feelings, self-talk, re-assessing goals, seeking support.
3.2 Strategies are developed for celebrating goal achievement.

Range: includes but is not limited to - self-affirmation, sharing with others.

I'd say that they are well on the way to achieving this Unit standard.

It's quite cool - you can punch him in the face and run off with his smokes and he can't catch you coz he has to take short steps with the crotch round his knees.

Alternatively it just takes a quick tug and they're around his ankles - sharp push in the chest and he's on his arse.

They really are a muggers dream come true...but I don't do that anymore.

i personally think he looks like a right tosser. dunno how thats meant to impress a girl...a guy with pants down around his knees showing off his mummy-bought-pink-heart-covered boxers? blurk. no thanks. guess thats why i prefer to date older.

i very rarely fall victim to fashion trends...i buy all my gear second hand, and usually, as i buy it, it comes back into fashion not long after.
