The only thing about using someones bike as a project bike is that there will be a lot of "out of class" time put into it if you go the whole full rebuild way...i.e you may show how to spray 1 panel but there is the rest of the bike to do as well.

Hence you get someone to put up the cash to buy a shitter and parts. when the bike sell the person gets back the money they put up plus maybe a bit of cash adn the rest is split between those doing the work.
i.e 3 main mechanics (should be able to do a bit of everything but have thier specialities namly cosmetic, mechanical and electrical.)
    donor bike $1000 - $1500
    parts -$500
    Sell value $4000 - $5500

Giving of your time is fine but the bike will need like 30-40 hours put into it to make it really mean.

    Just a thought mind you
Lump lingered last in line for brains,
And the ones she got were sort of rotten and insane...

Well... I just found a thread from Brett of him selling a ZXR that needs some TLC done to it... not too bad a price I think, Sam needs a new bike and I'm not prepared to give her mine or to spend a lot to get one for her, this way she gets a ZXR, and then HAS to help with getting it on the road, by the loosk of things it needs some work that could be covered on the night, including plastic welding and painting etc So I'm waiting for Sam to give me a yes/no and we'll go from there
I'm not a complete idiot... some pieces are missing

Well if we use this bike, i dont mind buying the necessary parts, however i would not be spending heaps cosmetically, since it will become a racebike or maybe a commuter to save the gsxr some wear and tear. We could do the basics, engine rebuild (of which i am not 100% knowledgeable on), rebuild the shocks, respray the frame, chain and sprokcets, check/replace/re-pack all the bearings etc, however fairings would be plastics welded and painted in just one plain colour.

I would not be too keen to pay for labour, as like you affman, that is why i started doing my own work!
I dont mind doing it on a longinsh schedule, and as you mentioned, only some work would be done with the group, for example we would not rebuild both shocks, i would do the other one another night after work otherwise it would drag on too long. The only other issue is that my work is quite long, and I wouldn't be able to guarantee that I would have time to get it done in the week between sessions (although I sure would try!)

Space would also be an issue, my garage would be inappropraite as I cant have a bike pulled apart for that period of time. The wife would kill me. My GSXR would kill me. Eventually, I would kill myself. No.
I have all the tools we would need bar a torque wrench, but i would buy one since I need one.

In principle, I like the idea. If someondecides to buy the thing, then hopefully they are keen to let us rebuild it for them!
Nail your colours to the mast that all may look upon them and know who you are.

What I'd like to see is someone do the valves very accurately to the .01mm and tune the carbs like anything!

Would also be interested in gearbox engine work. I have a copy of the manual and can make copies in CD if needed. (illegal i know).

Got some tools as well and I will contribute in any other form agreed upon for this. Thanks.

Sorry that this is taking so long to organise everyone.

So much stuff going on personally, that time to even go for a ride has been brought down to bare minimum (as in commuting only).

Pretty much we just need to find a venue with the right tools and we're away... still looking however.

Well regardless of whether we use my ZXR or not, I will be happy to attend and help out. Although I get the feeling that there are a few out there that know a tad more than I!

    Hey all

well im more than happy to help still, and if i ever get a flat in auckland could probably provide a venue aswell!!

just want to say good on PF for having a go and organising etc. If it doesnt happen or even if it does if anyone has any problems or question feel free to come to me.

I can either do the work for you at mates rates (pls try not to rip me off im no good with money ) or i can show you how to do it for beer, or better yet jonnie walker!

i'm pretty sure i can do must anything to a 250, and all modesty aside ive got a pretty decent rep out there

so basically if anyone needs a hand , or a hand with the spanner night, just gimme a holler
Ill paint your bike, $600 all up any colour you want

Apologies in advance for not reading the entire thread, feel free to bitch slap me if this question has already been answered but:

Is this open to zxr250 owners/people who know them mechanically specifically or can other people with semi-similar bikes come along just to see how an engine is rebuilt and so-on?

Sorry again for not reading the whole thread, I'm tired and want to go to bed but I just had to ask first!
