    Luxon ?

Is Mr Luxon, leader of the opposition, an evangelical Christian?

Depends in what sense you mean 'Evangelical'.

I've not heard Mr Luxon mention God every other word, so if he's going for the evangelizing definition, he's doing it rather badly. I did a quick google search and of Luxon and God - 3 articles in 3 years - again, hardly spouting the word of the lord to the great unwashed heathen masses.

I did read an article from a Lefty blog - which talked about whether someone who says they hold an evangelical view can be trusted in power. Putting aside the obvious political hackery and bias of the site, it made a good point - can someone who has a personal and private view on an issue be trusted with a public view.

The example that came to mind strongly was this from JRM (who I happen to like, even if he is a devout Catholic) - where he explains this exact issue:

All I'll add is that it would be nice if every Socialist/Marxist who was an MP got grilled this hard if they wanted to overthrow the Capitalist West...

Why would it matter. The bill of rights and international law protects someone’s right for freedom of association and expression of religious beliefs.
Our laws and moral values are all based on the Ten Commandments in bible.
The left can’t handle a belief in hope for better future rather than an anarchist belief that everything in the world is rotten, failing and needing to be destroyed.
The guys policy ideas and business success must be great if we are reduced to talking about his religious beliefs....

    .
That is not what anarchism is about. Look it up.

Its about as knee jerk and hateful as my response to any right winger, and any religious nutjob.

If someone was a radical Muslim fundamentalist that would normally carry with it certain preconceived expectations.
Radical Christian fundamentalists don't come with the same expectations, but they should. There is very little difference.

    Well said that man.
I am sick of people crapping on about the laws of our country being based on the 10 commandments. That may have had a basis in fact at some point but they seem to be based mostly on common sense rather than some outdated scripture imo. I had this out with a redneck christian recently and asked for an example and predictably, he said, “thou shalt not kill”. I asked him if that concept was exclusive to christianity whereupon he had to concede that it clearly isnt. Etc. FFS.

So we’re moving now from evangelical to he’s an extreme fundamentalist???? Pretty desperate...

I’d just like to take a moment yo remind people that 20% of our population now expects a prayer at every work/council/school/govt meeting session. If we’re gonna be ok with that then what’s wrong with pm believing in god?
If we end up with a Jewish, Hindu, or Muslim pm will you still be worried or are you just anti Christian????

Well you could forgive the other religions and people sharing ideas like that. You’d almost think that there were/are people who travel the world on a mission to spread word of god to other countries. We could probably call them missionaries...

To be honest I didn't think he justified a thread as he won't be around for the election, a bit like Pipkins.

I love that nickname. She never crushed anything, she was an abject failure but the name sticks. Seriously though, she may make a comeback and it would not be good.
