Actually wkid, I've used a few now and that includes DVDXcopy Platinum, as you already know, and I find DVD Shrink suits my needs best. I like the way it uses the burner part of Nero to do the job, and it also seems to work better as a background app on my P4. DVDXcopy seemed to use too many resources for my liking, and doing lots of Photoshop work seemed to result in rooted DVD's.
Cajun - what *nix you looking at running on the G4? I have a G4-400 Sawtooth that I used to run PPC Linux 2000 Q4 on (remember that linux? - I think it ran a 2.14 kernel - old stuff now) but this was before OS X was anywhere near even usable... I'm running Mandrake 9.2 on an old Compaq Deskpro at the moment... tried it on the laptop I'm currently writing this on - but not grunty enough.
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.
