    Sprockets for VTZ250

    Hi there,

I'm having a bit of a frustrating time - I want to replace the chain and sprockets on my little VTZ250 (1987 japanese model), but both of the bike shops I visited (Wellington Motorcycles and Motomart in the Hutt) reckon they can't find sprockets to fit it.

Are honda sprockets (assuming same chain type) all the same regarding fitment?

I know the number of teeth i need on front and rear.

    Any help gladly received.

If none of the shops have a sprocket book showing your model, then you need to take both your sprockets in and visually identify suitable replacements. The sprocket book will have a diagram showing spline weight, all relevant diameters etc
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

JT sprockets is a type usually available in NZ, try their website (UK based) and find out what you need.
The more info you can give the parts guys, the easier their job.

Ok, they should be able to do this for you but if you want your sprockets you are better off taking charge....

    damn...

The problem is i need the bike on the road as its my only currently usable vehicle... and having them pull off the sprockets, send them off etc. is going to take a week if not more.. and then i need to source brake pads, oil filter, a new clutch lever etc... nightmare.

I have some data from a japanese website:

    http://www.afam.co.jp/sprocket_list/ENGLISH/HONDA.htm

under the VTZ listing theres a bunch of numbers - not sure if this would describe the sprockets splines etc.?

You shouldn't have to pull anything apart, look on JT's website and find your model....the info is all there.

The exact model isnt on there...

But i think that website will let me find the exact JT sprocket model from visual inspection - theres only 2 it could realistically be. Thanks heaps!
