Can you imagine if any of us tried that on with our customers? If I did I'd be out of business in a week and have to work for a prick like me.
    Lube anyone?

I`m going to stay with orcon, they are going to introduce vdsl gear at the exchanges which are capable of up to 100mb/s only drawback is it only works approx half the distance from the exchange that broadband does.not a problem where I am..I`m 130 mtrs from the exchange.

And it runs on copper to the exchange too .

With that technology which apparently has been in use overseas for the last 3 yrs, orcon are looking to do The whole deal thing...phone,internet connection and TV for 1 package price.

True, but if you remember back in the day when we owned it, a new phone connection would take 3 years, the phones had crank handles on them and it cost $3,578,580 per minute to call Australia. If we still owned it, you wouldn't be able to read this informative post as the internet wouldn't exist.

Lets face it. NZ can't run big business, especially the government. We don't have the skill or the money.

No they wouldn't, make a fortune that is. why would they spend millions on 'a' site in the middle of no where, NEVER.. NEVER .. and i mean NEVER to recoup the money spent on the infrastructure.. just so Cowpoos and his mates can watch pr0n?

It's not a viable option to put cell sites in the sticks mate, theres just not the traffic/$.

I don't disagree that it'd be nice but it doesn't make business sense unfortunately... population density is where the coin is. Happy farmers are all well and good but they don't put food on Arin's plate... he's got a lot of hungry little indian mouths to feed

My fault for not being able to convince my bosses, the Telecom Board, and Foreign Investors to Invest in NZ's future. However they didn't want to invest in it. They just wanted the cash.

I wish. I haven't worked at Telecom since '96, and my "career" has been in terminal decline ever since. Something about "not respecting Authority Figures", whatever the fuck they are.

You need to call Campbell Live and tell them your story. They love this kind of stuff.

I fail to see the logic in this! Surely an advanced technology programme would be the best investment? You make it sound like people have simply been using Telecom as a cash cow and milking it for their short term benefit...

(Didn't that happen to rail and so the NZ Gummit bailed them out and bought it all back?) Why do I get a sense of De ja whatsit?

    I'm confused..!

Not just as far as technology, in all aspects of life, this country ranks amongst the lesser developed. Socially, politically and ecconomically.

I deliberately didnt use the term "third world" until it is explained to me exactly where the "second world" is.
