Contact the South AMurkns - they'll probably want to exercise a claim against the Maori to the kumara, since it came from there originally.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

True, and if you read the article those are the ones the Maori are talking about, the pre European kumara, not the Owairaka red.I am happy if they want to keep an old strain of vegetable going.

It's a shame Maori no longer garden, the old people always had a big vege garden, and different varieties were passed down, and around.A couple of years ago I pulled into a friends place in the Naki late on a winter evening,on the bike. She knew I was coming and she gave me a plate of purple potatoes! They were a strain in her family that she recently got from an uncle, she thought they had been lost. They look and taste like an ordinary potatoe, but inside they are purple.I might see if she has kept them going, maybe I can grow some myself, and keep them active....if she doesn't mind them going out of the tribe.

The fruit and veges you buy in the supermarket are varieties that produce and sell well, the bottom line is always money. But there is an underground culture of unimproved seed, original settlers stock.

    Gone way past that.

    Its a principle now.

When does the line get drawn?

When does all this crap finish?

For how much longer do the demands of the few take precednce over the wishes of the majority?

When do the tree hugging do gooders stop kissing arse and realise that you cant fix everything with a kiss, a hug and a few hundred million dollars?

There are very few places left in this world where there is an indigenous race of people. What we do have is a population that settled an area at an earlier time than those who came later.

Time for a revolution of some kind that will put an end to all this crap otherwise my great grandchildren will still be held responsible for the actions or inaction of my great great granparents.

Seen them and eaten them in a downtown Auckland Restaurant, maybe Kermadec from memory. They must be around, tasted pretty good too from memory if not a little weird to look at

yup... cant everyone just get along n share a vege (sounds like its $$$ orientated)... next thing some other race (euro) will try claim oranges or apples or somthin cuz that variety of fruit was bought here on a ship from some other country when they came here over a hundered years or so ago... my sister grows potatoes in her garden... does she have to pay a commission to the pple that introduced them??...

    watch it turn political....
