    Cool Virgin Mufflers conversions, Auckland

While doing up my XJ900 I had been looking for someone to make up a stainless muffler to match one I had. This proved to be a little more difficult than I first thought, and when I did find someone to do it, they were in the south island and were going to charge me a fair bit of dosh to have it done.

Last week while I was picking up some parts from Henderson Motorcycles, I mentioned to Nathan that I still hadn't sorted out my mufflers. He gave me this card and said ring this guy, he does and awesome job.

So I got home and rang Warren. He came around the same day and took a look at the stainless muffler I already had and said he could make me up a matching pair (not the same as the one I have) and fit them for lesss than what it was going to cost to have 1 made.

So yesterday he picked up the bike and today he dropped it back off with the new mufflers fitted (he lives 2 minutes from my place in Kelston) and I have to say I'm very impressed.

Check out the photos and if you're in the market for a new set of custom mufflers then I suggest you give this guy a ring:

P.S. He works from home and is trying to setup this new business so give him a call he may just be able to make the mufflers you want.

That's the $100 question.... I won't know until the weekend when I throw the battery back in, replace a couple of fuses and throw some gas at it.

I'll let you know but I suspect they will sound quite good.

Sounds awesome... Unfortunately I can't take it on the road with no tank fitted but just had it running in my garage and it's loud and deep but not that loud that it hurts your ears

Nice pipe, and it's always good to support a local business. Also looks like a pretty outstanding 'do up' on the XJ, judging by the photos. How about a couple more piccies of the whole bike?

I bought her 80% restored. Only had to buy tyres, fit carbs, handlebars, switches etc. Repair collector, replace mufflers. Fit brakes, replace tank, plastic repairs, some painting, and a few other bits and pieces.

Have been riding it up and down the st this week and I love it. Only has 14000 km on the clock, hasn't been registered since 86 and i'm the 2nd owner.

Cant wait to get the tank on it, and yes it's in mint condition for an 83.

    Cheers

Sweet! Must admit I have never owned a Yamaha, but a couple of times back in the day I rode an XJ of that vintage that my brudder-out-law bought new (or close to it) and remember being well impressed. It's always good to see 'old' iron being kept on the go. Happy riding!

She's going to look a whole lot better in the next couple of weeks when I get my tank and plastic back from the painter.

Goes really well too. I got a bit of a surprise when I bolted up the carbs and new battery and she fired first pop.
