WTB: Solid medium-sized bike for about $4000

Okay, next I'm going to the South Island. My pillion's friend has come down from the USA as well. She wants to buy a bike, maybe around the $4000 mark. Maybe a bit more if the bike is a good 'un.

Anyway, we need a solid reliable bike suitable for a not tall person. As long as it would be tolerable riding around for a couple of weeks. Doesn't really matter what.

I rode an old FJ1200 last weekend and was bloody impressed, but that might be a bit big for her.

Anyway, aside from what is on bikepoint.co.nz and tardme, is there anyone in the Wellington area who has been thinking of selling a bike that hasn't got around to listing it yet?

Or is there anyone local willing to rent out something suitable for.. umm.. a nominal fee?

How nominal? Got an old viffer 750 that while too small for my 6ft 4 is allegedly very comfortable for normal sized peeps. @#$ckin reliable as hell too. Could be prepared to sell it for $3100. Newish rear shock and front fork internals have all recently been sorted out (junked the air assisted crap).
