    RRRR (Road Rash's Race Report) PMCC Rnd 3

    Hey,

    Well i've read all the inspring reports which gets posted after a weekends racing and its probably about time I gave it ago.

    Momentum and I headed down to Taupo on saturday night to crash at a mates place who I have known from my climbing days. After a few bourbons and a bbq we got to bed around 12 hoping to get up and be on the way out to the track by half six. 5.30 and well a wake i lay in bed thinking of the day ahead.

    On arriving at the track it looked like the day was heading for the worst but eventually turn to heat and sunshine. By the first practice session the last of the puddles were clearing and the track was fantastic for the rest of the day.

    Street stock Race 1:
    Always nervous heading into turn one with everyone flying into turn one but i got a pretty good start and and one of the 150's got through on me which I made back in the first 1 or 2 laps. He got me again coming through turn one on the fifth lap when i went to go round the out side of a classic out the other end of the corner and got nearly got squessed onto the grass, and he got between me and the classic. I got him again along the back straight with the white flag waving with the classic ahead again. Left the braking real late and with a nice tip in i passed him on the apex and held it for the finish line.

    Street Stock Race 2:
    again start was pretty good but learning alot about strategies with heading into turn 1. got back into the lead again and around the 3rd lap missed a gear coming around the right handed and momentum got passed. Tried to get him on the inside on brakes going into the sweeper but he came down on me and closed the gap. I passed him round the out side and held it to the cheqered flag.

    Street Stock Race 3:
    bog out at the start and the 150 and momentum got through. saw mometum get the wiggle on on the white line in turn one which could have been interesting if he lost it to say the least. Momentum and I passed the 150 and out braked momentum going back into turn one and held it for the rest or the race.

    With the day running smoothly there was time for a fourth race.

    Street Stock Race 4:

    Bogged down again at the start again and lost a few place but made them up quickly. had mometum try and out brake me and come up the inside but closed that down. (Thought it was awsome that he was giving it ago) and held it for the rest of the race

    I was also out there for the F3 but having just raced the SS i was pretty stuffed and ended up at the back some where on the 250. Using these races as time on the track and a bit of fun trying to chace down faster bikes. Also ran off the track in the second lap in the last F3 race on the right hander. I got good drive out the the hairpin and though id give it a reall good go but my entry point wasnt quite right and headed for the grass. kept it upright and back on to the track.

    So with four races won and a fantastic day to boot I had a fantastic weekend and yet another day down on the track I am still learning volumes about lines, speed and racing.

    It was awsome to see mometum improving 3 fold from the last race(which was his first) and pull in a third and three seconds. Also good to see and meet TemporaryNZer and Genocide. Awsome to see Jill, Gordon, Cleve and Phil out as well and thanks to Kicking Zebra for helping out with all the trackside stuff I dont have.

    I'm looking foward to the next round coming up soon

    Good stuff Dave. I only managed to get a glimpse of you in one of the F3 races. That session was totally packed, but you were looking really good on the bike.

    Hope to see you at the next one, 1st April

    Racing is great aye!

    But go get a 150, and stop burgling the 150 class

    You guys looked dam good out on the track briliant clean close racing . Hope you had as much fun as it looked like.

    Hey Thanks Guys,

    the 150s were beating me for a while.

    As for getting a 150 hmmm, probably onwards and upwards, 600 maybe?? who knows.

    And it wasent genocide I meet it was Denniso. Sorry about that.

    I'll also look out for luke, Bring it on!! (seriously its all good fun)

    I am yet to see anyone, who has succesfuly gone from streetstock to 600s, and do 'well'

    Sure 600s are lots of fun, but they dont teach you a great deal if ya shitting yaself the whole way round the track.

    Yeah, thats whats the 250's for. Money is the greater limit at the moment. wont be doing much racing during this year either which doesnt help. I have my last year of accounting exams then I'm qualified. I'll look at haveing another crack (more racing) next year

    Tis a bit of a big step. Perhaps a season in F3 before F2/600s is better...

    I didn't do a season on F3 bikes... nor in fact streetstocks...

    Still Have learnt a few damnably expensive lessons. I do believe these will continue too, though will obviously try to not let that happen. Each class is ridden differently, and I am not convinced being OK in F3 would directly translate to being OK in F2.. (notable exception of Kyle Key)

    Id agree there, i learned to corner on a cbr250, on the street tho. And only ever ridden a cbr600 on the track. Main thing i noticed was 'damn this 600 is a whale to get around corners, compared to a 250. second thing i noticed was the ability to twist the throttle too much and slide the back out, at the wrong time. It really is like chalk and cheese, and youd have to learn what ever bike you decided to get. My vote would be get a 600.

    I don't really want to put a downer on it, but would you go climbing with someone after a few burbons and 5hrs sleep? Not the greatest way to start a racing day is it really. Racing motorbikes is a serious sport and if you are not shagged at the end of the day you are either a serious athelete or simply riding around a circuit, not racing. Perhaps part of that learning curve is how to prepare properly. But get into it, it is a great sport.

    And don't start racing on a 600!!!! Start with a 150, a 250 2-stroke or well set up 400 F3 bike or at a stretch an SV650. Learn to race before you go buying horsepower and learn those expensive lessons you can avoid by starting at the beginning.

    F3, OR 125s. People are WAY to quick to write 125s outta the scene. If you really wanna learn how to go round corners. they will teach you. And NO they are no where near as expensive to maintain. You think 125s are expensive to maintain, wait till you crash a 600 or blow it up. Then you'll know what expensive is!!

    And unless you're over 6ft2" or over 80KG, you will fit, and people have gone fast being that size!

    Any one who races will learn some damnly expensive lessons. But jumping striaght to 600s without any serious track experience will cost you big time. Not only $$$, but also skill. the power of 600s -can- compensate for not so average riding. Small bikes teach you to use a corner to its full, because you dont have any power to fix the big fuck up ya make.



    As i said earlier. I am yet to see anyone, come from little or zero track time on small bikes, jump to 600s/1000s and go fast.

    Racing is like a ladder. If you dont put the steps in place, you'll never get to the top
