I agree with most of the comments before me. I think you should better your self by aiming your sights higher. MacD's is more or less for the people that have given up on moving ahead or just can't for unknown reasons. Maybe do some night classes to further your education...or just get a low end job at a well known big company...that way the way from the bottom is up and at least its in a company that has a future.

I would consider your current job as a time killer or something to give you a little spare cash while you study. There are plenty of people, like myself that have no School C or any school certs and have a good paying job with a great future. Just gotta do what you wanna do and dont settle for anything less.

It is really easy to give up your work ethic, and really quite hard to win it back again.
I recommend not losing it in the first place.

People that are hard workers are recognised as such. I am not saying they are necessarily rewarded as such, but they are recognised.

The ultimate satisfaction in this life has to be working well, and enjoying the fruits of said labours.

Talking with employers about said problems is probably the best place to start, and will teach valuable communication lessons, and perhaps even what it is like to be unpopular.
    Valuable life lessons.

Is it the type of job your sick of, or the people you work with?

If its the job, the get out. If you dont like your job, you cant help your customers to your full potential. If its the workers, talk to managment.
Its not worth losing your job over people not doing theirs right.

Trust me, ive been through it a few times.

    Have a think about it.

If you like the job, but not the people, ask for a transfer (mafu1, you mentioned that the higher management spend their time looking after the other bigger store so Im guessing that there is another store). Explain to them that (assuming you like your job and not the people there) that you would like a transfer, explain why, and how you perceive things to be at the store. Be reasonable, and be fair in your demands.

Dont expect things to happen straight away, but do follow up on what you ask for.

If they say you cant have a transfer, then start to quickly find another job or make it very clear, that they are NOT to ring you on a Saturday morning, if its your day off (regardless of whether its a scheduled day off, or you requested that day off under your contract like me). Unfortunately no matter which you decided to do, your kinda fucked because they know you don't want to be there, and since your classed as "permanent part time" labor, they can cut your hours if they decide that your not pulling your weight, or the store manager/manager in charge of rostering doesn't like you (Ive seen it happen more than once, and unfortunately there is almost nothing you can do about it)

Ive worked in McDs for 3 years, because I don't know what I want to do with my life, and I work around great people. The customers are mostly a bunch of cunts, especially the Asians that don't know a word of english and still try to order a big mac combo, anyway, if you need to know anything else, just ask. I work in low level management of my store, and know a lot about the inner working of the store.

Another thing you can always do, is approach another store (not one owned by the same people as your current store) and ask for a job. Most stores will be more than willing to hire someone that is already trained so long as you have good references.

Also, if you do ask for a transfer, type out the request (or atleast write it out) and hand it to the higher up management. If you just ask, you will more than likely be forgotten about.

And one more thing. Dont ask for help when your on counter and it gets busy. If you hate the store, and are only crew, and it gets busy dont ask for help (this only helps the store make money). Just keep on working at a steady pace. Never going fast, but never going slow either. Watch the sales of the store go down (customers will walk away if you dont serve them quick enough), and if you do this well enough, and for long enough, watch the upper management in the store get arseholes from the owner.

Enough advice - time to get your act together

Mafu1. Terbang seems to have his act together, why not PM him and ask if he will give you some one-on-one advice.

If yer boss is a prick then tell him to shove his job and get another. I went out and found what I wanted and it was a tough road for a guy who had left school at 15 doing night school and so on. But now I can easily say that most people have to work for a living, the rest of us just fly around in jets. My passion became my job and has been that way for nearly 30 years. I wouldn't want you to tell my employers this but its been such a hoot, I'd a done it for nothing..!
There is also a lot of good advice in other posts for you. Having done the worker - manager thing, I now provide advice and sort out problems for other people, businesses or departments. My advice is get your act together. You don't want to be noticed as part of the problem where you work - you might need a reference for your next job. Could you describe how you have made a difference where you currently work? A recruiter, employer or manager may ask you that question.

Your first step is to prepare a plan for how to improve your lot and make sure the plan has dates for action. Until you have that plan don't do anything silly. Don't stuff around either; do it before the end of the week.
    Here for the ride.

Hey you old fart, get your generations right. Gen-x's are older than this guy, we're generally depressed and/or ambivalent about everything. This guy is Gen-y. They're the ones that expect everything for nothing...

Whats the dates for this 'x generation' thing?
Or generation X... ??! hmmm *tries google n wiki*

    EDIT:- *from Wikipedia*
"Generation X is a term used to describe the generation of Americans born following the post-Second World War baby boom. The exact demographic boundaries of Generation X are not well defined: people born between 1963 and 1978 are generally considered "Generation X," while others use the term to describe anyone who was in their twenties some time during the 1990s. [1] According to Neil Howe and William Strauss, Generation X includes anyone born from 1961 to 1981. The term is used in demography, the social sciences, and marketing, though it is most often used in popular culture. The generation's influence over pop culture began in the 1980s and may have peaked in the 1990s."

Well... I dont fit in there lol... bugger

There are worse jobs than Maccas. You think the pay is shite there? When we were kids, it was considered an upwards move to go from shelf stacking at a supermarket to working at Maccas, the pay was at least 33% better. I got the same pay, but had to work harder working at a cafe.

I worked for Macca's for a total of 4 years, during that time i went from your general crew person, to crew trainer adn then on to shift manager and i completed the various management papers available to me,

At 17 years of age i was responsible for running a restuarant with up to 35 staff during the summer, in any position that is a good look on a CV, and it has lead to management positions that i may not have had the experience or necessary qualifications at such an early age.

It is a shit job sometimes but there are also huge benefits in that you can advance at an early age, Perhaps you should make this most of it and study, or baring that, transfer to a larger store where there is more opportunity to shine.. You diffently learn how to work hard, and clean, cook and basic food prep etc, plus i met some great friends there.

I also looked totally cute in the blue hat shirt combo and me and another manager used to get invited to parties all the time. haha

    Good luck
