    It's genetic... (Hanne)

    hi all
This is my first time posting and I must say, I am very excited about it because with a colour scheme like this how could it NOT be an awesome site? (Ok, I admit it, i have a thing for shiny black bikes...especially with yellow detailing)

Something about myself? Well, my name is Hanne, as my username would suggest, I am currently up in auckland and it was rather inevitable that I would end up here sooner or later.

My grandma fell for my grandad and his bike, same story with my mum and dad. And then I met squiggles. And fun as being his pillion was, I decided that it would even better if I was riding myself... so I got my licence and here I am!

So far I have been learning to ride on his GN250, but I am looking at buying a bike of my own in the new year (preferably a black one )
I would be wanting to be able to travel reasonable distances (eg to whangmata, whangarei from auckland) and so far have been looking at either a zxr250 or possibily a cbr250. Do you guys have any suggestions for me? What are those two bikes like for a learner?

Thanks, and i look foward to posting again soon!

    Hanne

    those bikes are fine.
will feel alot different to the GN, and the riding style will feel un-authodoxed to begin with, but that feeling goes away very quickly!

as for long trips. i ahd a cbr250rr. i took that to paeroa, it was about that time my legs and arse had started to go numb, and a walk was needed.
so just a couple of short breaks on a long ride is a good idea. but no hassle.

OH! and welcome to KB, im fairly new to it myself

You know, you can get GN250s in black!

Of course, well, that doesn't really stand up to the awesome faired blackness of a ZXR or CBR.

    Hello Hanne,

I've just got my first bike - a Suzuki Volty (black of course) nearly identical twin to the GN250.

Welcome aboard and enjoy the ride

    G'day Hanne, welcome to KB.
Good luck with your hunt for a (black) bike.
Try sitting on/riding a few to find one that suits you.
I found myself that budget was a bit of a factor when finding my bike - but hey at least its black right.

    Thanks for the welcomes!
Yep, my boy goes by the name of Squiggles. He just bought a gsxr750 on which we are going to tour the South Island over new years, actually...
    Should be fun

I've had my Hyosung GT250R to Wellington and back (from Auckland) and Palmerston North and back twice .. on the last trip i only stopped 4 times .. and yes, they come in black! .. lol ..

As a new bike and for a learner, i can't speak highly enough of them.

I can in all honesty tell you the honda cbr250rr's are an excellent bike. As somebody said before, they handle alot different to a gn250. They feel alot more sporty with a fairly aggressive riding/ sitting position. They are high performance bikes though, so if you are still building your confidence, I suggest you take it easy if you get one. However, I have one and it is my first bike . They are very planted to the ground and handle so naturally you lean into the corners feeling very connected to the bike and the road (hopefully not TOO connected with the latter haha ) Also revvs to a very impressive 19,000rpm without hesitation. lol thats diggable.

Pros: fast, lightweight, handling, exhaust note

Cons: fast, lightweight, handling, exhaust note.......Yeah i'm being serious...Dont ride this bike hard if you cannot handle it properly, as forgiving as it is, this bike is not your usual sunday drive 250. The lightweight frame makes the bike very easy to handle and very confidince inspiring. However....wind gusts+light bike+fairings= a rather interesting ride. You can feel yourself getting buffeted (is that a word???) around in wind gusts especially while travelling on the motorway. You get used to it fairly quickly but it can be an unnerving feeling sometimes. As much as I love the sound of this bike, it can become annoying while travelling at 100kph for long distances unless you invest in sonme decent earplugs and/or a good helmet. 100kph equates to a rather noisy 9000rpm in 6th gear...
Maybe i;m just being pedantic but yeah this bike isn't for everyone.......
Go on a test ride and see if you like them....Personally I love them and theres no other 250 i'd rather have.

the front wheel and the rear wheel...
