hmm i thought the music cutting out was part of it LOL
On our way home form the Hare we did a small diversion I've looked at a few times but never ridden. The north end comes out at the Shell Garage at Palmerston and the other end comes out at the end of the long passing lanes about 8-10km out of Palmerston.
The route is all sealed and has some really nice corners, lots of quite tight corners, the road is wider than the Trotters Gorge road by a little bit, a little bumpy in places but Free2B had no trouble on her cruiser, just a matter of adjusting the speed. An enjoyable ride at a modest speed - allow for meeting stock being moved on the road - there weren't any when we went through but there were "signs" on the road that they had been there not long before we were there.
So I would recommend it if you are on a day ride up there. There is a side road about halfway round that goes down to a reserve that has been developed and maintained by one of the Penguin Trusts - this is a gravel road and one I'm going to have an explore of another time. I didn't notice how far the sign said it was down to the reserve.
This would make a nice social ride from Dunedin - maybe another picnic????
Well what a great weekend and great company we seem to be getting a really neat bunch of deep southerners together with a few new faces every timeand lots more great rides to come
Love those off the main highway roads tho I dont think Ill ever be as fast as some of you guys round those twisty bumpy bits

Are Dunedin KBer's interested in an organised day run to Mandeville, near Gore this Sunday 18th March? It's the Annual "All British Bike Day" at "The Moth Cafe" beside the Mandeville Airport. A very congenial laid back atmosphere where British bikes (old & new) are displayed. Good food options & great Espresso. A separate area for all other motorcycles makes interesting viewing also.
Meet at McDonalds, Andersons Bar Road near Shell S/station @ 9.30am for 10.00am departure.

I can think of some rather more out of the ways (on seal) roads than going there and back on SH1 - a meet up at Chez Scumdogs might be OK on the way down but surely we can ride home differently - maybe West Otago and even do the route that comes out at Ettrick and then back down SH8, down the river from Beaumont if going back to Balclutha or through Lawrence for another gourmet coffee etc???? Mmmm sounds like I'm planning on going???
hmm sounds tempting ill see if i have my new bike by then .

I’m keen. Now to convince the wife the scooter needs a few cobwebs blown out of it. That is going to be an art....
