I go to the testing station near Woolies in Andy Bay. Usually no waiting and it takes 5 mins. They also dont know your bikes specs so are unlikely to whip out a micrometer to measure the wear on your disks and decide you need new rotors or that your braided brake lines are American standard not NZ standards and therefore don't comply. Bike shops tend to get a bit fussy as they need to be thorough to keep the ability to issue WOF's. No slur on the bike shops as I have had good dealings with all of them.
The testing station give everything a wiggle and get you to skid both wheels and your off again with a warrent in 5 mins.

Thanks, I guess you can also do your rego and warrent all in one go here which saves running around. I wondered what the testing station were like for bikes. Interesting.

I have delt with MCR for a battery and bits and pieces and have found them very helpful also.

I agree with GaZBur. The testing stations are not that up on the play as Bike shops are, but they do check safety items like swing arm bushes and frame head bushes. I use Dunedin Warrant Testing in Hillside Road opp Otago Tyres. I give them big raps as they have picked up on a couple of issues I had not noticed & was thankful for. If you take a cage there and it fails on a small item they will often fix it for you there & then.

Sweet as cheers guys I went to the vehicle testing station today, mainly because I didn't want to book it in and I didn't want to drop it there for a while and get stranded in town. Only took about 10 mins and got the warrant..... they checked the wheel bearings, steering head bearings etc and gave the bike a pretty good look over in general... Now I have to decide where to go for a balst tommorrow... was thinking of mount cook, havnt been up that way yet.

I had a day in the loo once - not pleasant

Didn't make it to the Vincent in the end - we sort of kept going and ended up in Arrowtown via Hawea and Wanaka. Didn't go till Sat morning either. Great ride though (with Delphinus and Wanderbird) both there and home on Sunday. Had a pillion for only half the trip - she bought something on the way that goes round corners better than most bikes do, fortunately we can still out accelerate and filter through cars a bit quicker!!

An Invite to attend and display our bikes

    Otago Aero Club Inc.
    Taieri Airport
    Mosgiel

2008 Taieri Wings and Wheels Event
Including the annual Tiger Moth Club National rally
The Otago Aero Club will be holding its annual Wings and Wheels event at Taieri Airport, Mosgiel on Saturday 23rd February 2008 and Sunday 24th February.
Saturday is the main motoring day and the aim of the event is to provide a venue for aviation and motoring enthusiasts alike. If you are looking for an opportunity for a club run then this is ideal.
There will be a full flying program featuring light general aviation aircraft of all types. The enclosed flyer details some of the attractions. The Red Chequers will be there both days.

The first Wings and Wheels events held in 2005 saw the Best of British Motoring Day participants attend. They returned in 2007 along with the Otago Falcon and Fairlane clubs. The mix of aviation and motoring provides a great day out for car club members and the motoring enthusiast. Unlike most airshows which are solely aviation based, the Taieri Wings and Wheels event format places equal emphasis on the motoring side with a concours event, expert commentary and club parades of selected cars.

This year we are expecting more car clubs. Any club member with a vintage, classic or interesting vehicle of any make will be allowed to participate in the grass track gymkhana event on the day. There will be specific parking areas for each club or marque.

There will also be concours prizes for the best vehicles.

A major attraction of the day will be the annual Tiger Moth club National rally with the presence of up to 30 De Havilland vintage aircraft at Taieri over the weekend. This is a rare chance to see so many vintage aircraft at one time.

This is a charitable event. Entry fee is $ 5 per adult, gold coin for children under 12.
Anyone with an interesting or historic car, motorcycle, truck or off road vehicle is welcome. If this event is of interest, please let your club members know. Gates open 10 am.
If you have any questions please call me on 0274 352 517.

Sounds like an interesting event to go to Chris - the Tiger ain't quite old enough to be described as vintage, and the places mine goes it will NEVER be immaculate (or clean) enough to enter the concours event (it wears its scratches and dirt with pride!)
It must be getting near time to have another "Latte's in Lawrence" get together for the Dunedin KB'ers, with a ride up to Roxburgh or somewhere for lunch (very good new cafe opened up there)
