Sat ride is still in formulation stage, checking nail polish etc, but I could be up for both days as childless and bike has brand spanking new tyre and warrant ye hah! Though it will look very dull against all the other bling bling. Rainf forecast for tomorrow though.

    Sunday ride - Millenium track??

Just looking ahead to Sunday's ride - when we head up towards Ettrick there is an option at Beaumont to ride up the Millenium track. It turns off at the Beaumont Bridge and basically follows the old railway line through to Millers Flat. There are some spectacular sections of the Clutha river, lots of great picnic locations, the footbridge at Fishermans Bend, the historic "Lonely Graves"....
The only downside is that it is a gravel road for 3/4 of the trip.
I did it a few months ago and the guy I was riding with went down the main road (he was a frustratingly law abiding rider in regards to the speed limit - so the time difference would be greater for most riders) and he got to the other end 11 minutes before me. I did stop at the lonely graves to read the inscriptions, but I also probably rode the gravel a bit faster than most road bikes would do.
It is a pretty easy ride for any road bike, cars and campervans go through it - just a matter of taking it easy.

Anyone interested in doing this bit? - if so we could meet the others at Millers Flat and then ride up and over the Roxburgh dam and back to Ettrick before heading up to Moa Flat (Fruit stalls North Of Roxb. to stop at that way too if interested)

I was up the millenium road in Feb fishing and it was a bit rough (and I was in a 4wd). The back road from Millers Flat to Roxburgh is great though.

Personally, I'd sooner stick to the seal...I have done the back road from Miller's Flat to Roxburgh and quite enjoy that one.
So it's 11.00 at the Southern Dairy in Milton then?

Think Rm forgets not all are on high clearance adventure bikes road in question has a couple of fords doesn't it? Prolly wrong on that one!!! horrid road for a cruiser type you can do it not saying it's impossible but it would be very slow and muddy in places i guess well was the last time i was down it in me car but could be wrong!!! could go for a walk down it to clear head in the morning after the rally i guess!!! nice wee picturesque road tho all the same

Yes 11 am at Southern Dairy
I'd only do the Millenium track if someone else was keen and then we'd probably leave Lawrence 10-15 mins ahead of the rest of you and meet up at Millers Flat - certainly didn't expect many to be interested.
Seeing as we've got plenty of time, the ride up from Millers Flat to the dam and back the other side is a nice trip anyway so lets plan on doing that bit regardless.
Are you coming on Sunday now Botb?
Whoever is coming just make sure one of the others knows so we can either wait or not wait in Milton till everyone turns up.
    Cheers
