Worth getting a can upgrade for a 250?

Hi all,

I feel a bit stink b'cos I know there've been heaps of 'which can' threads of late. But I don't remember anyone mentioning 250 4's.

Only reason i'm asking is that my 21st coming up and the boys want to go in together and get me something and a 'zorst seems like an idea.

So is it worth doing? I know there's other stuff you need to do to get the most out of it (ie carb re-jetting).

Don't know bout a GSX 250. I know a few people with aftermarket cans for their CBR or ZXR's. They cost around $600 or so. Don't really make any difference, just with sound. The CBR ones are too loud. I know some guys that don't even use the after market can because it is too loud and makes them go deaf after riding for 15 mins or so.

Does the GSX have a flange where the headers go to the muffler? If it is all one piece you would probably have to cut the current can off and weld the new one on.

I took a CBR250RR with an Arrow a/m can out for a two-hour test ride once. Cruising at 100kph in top gear was genuinely painful on unplugged ears.

i has a ummmm did pipe. Sounded like a bloody rotor. Loud obnoxious (spelling) and generally made the bike look and sound bigger than it was. Got the heads turning. Unfortunatley if memory serves me right you gonna have to do a lot more work than just wacking on a can to put an after market exhaust on.

I've seen a Yamaha Zeal where some clown has carved off the standard pipes and butchered on a 4-1 system with a can that looks like it came off a Ferguson tractor... Sounded like crap as well.

On the subject of tractor exhausts, ANZA in Palmerston North has a Kawasaki Mean Streak that some git has had a crack at "customising" -- beige vinyl seat, and a single tractor exhaust. It screams "tasteless". Who knows, somebody may fall in love with it one day...

yip go the detector. Or for true cusomisation maybe different rim colours (about $200 to get both rims powdercoated) and that had just as much wank value

I was going to suggest something quite inappropriate as a gift here and thought better of it at the last moment....

Yeah they had that bike in there for AGES, that beige seat looks horrible, its not that colour you put on, and the exhust is bad, i mean any vn1500d exhusts fit on so no need to go that far

Sorry man, no offence meant by the 'wank value' comment.
Just that it looked like it would be 'shitty loud' with little or no performance upgrade.

It all depends on what it is and how you put it on. My old bike can be heard from a km away but if i am wearing the shark helmet it's not overly loud. An if i wear the cms a good set of ear plugs cancell out all the sound. The loud exhaust also helped people see (hear) me on the road. 6chris6 had the same pipe on the same bike but he had like a baffle thing in it or something and it was quieter than the origional. Aftermarket pipes don't necessarily need to be loud but the fact is they usually are to help with free flow.
