Radar detectors. What do you use?

I use an Escort X50 with screamer. And its not unknown for members of the constabulary to ask me to lead so they/he can follow behind the electronic protection. Yes, even someone as high up as inspector has used the protection of the Escort when in a car, (although he was only a senior Sergent at the time), and a well know constable on a bike has also sat in behind at times.

The thing with a radar detector is that it is only a backup to your own eyes. If the cop is sharp and using instant on, then the detector will only tell you that you are about to get a ticket. It does help in moderate traffic when you will get a warning as the cop targets other vehicles before you are in range, or if the cop triggers too soon. The best defence is still the Mk1 eyeball.

Yep totally agree. If the only reason you are getting a detector is for a licence to speed then its not going to do much at all. If you use it as a tool in addition to your eyes etc then you will get your money's worth out of it.

x50 and loving it - used to be sAs's until he filled it with water and killed the screen and half the smart cord circutry. $5 of insulation tape seems to have dealt with waterproofness and $10 of components plus an hour of swearing dealt with the fucked circutry enough to be useful. Usual red don't panic light up on the edge of windscreen for round town use, long trips warrant use of earpiece.

Haven't had a false alert yet (in 1 month ish), which is a nice improvement on my old uniden. Oh and the detection range is amazing as well.

I bought an Escort just a couple of weeks ago. Since I have a cigarette lighter gizmo already in the dash, I thought I'd use that, but found that having a bloody great long coil of lead flapping around in the breeze is a drag. So invested $25-odd dollars and bought a direct wire from Radar Direct; fed an obliging relative a couple of beers while he fitted it all nice and neat (thanks again Bro!) and all is good.

Wearing the earplug takes a bit of getting used to, but worth it to have something to remind me that it is wicked and wrong to exceed the speed limit....

Do the big 3 makes all take the same power cable? I got a bel hardwired but some low life inbred father rooter stole the rx65 out of me car........ :bloodyfukenangry: grrr

One of my mates has an earplug from an MP3 player but I velcroed a small Dick Smith speaker into a helmet cavity so I could still wear ear plugs. The sound was fine. I prefer the screamer that I have now, but do feel a bit of a pillock if it goes off in town and everyone stares before I can cancel it
