    Rakes and matchsticks

I notice there has been a good amount of publicity about "super" models, and runway models in general, and their unhealthy weight, and general appearance.

A lot of models are unhealthy, and gaunt in appearance, and the makeup only hides a bit of the damage they do to themselves. I recently saw a Dove soap? advert on TV, with a bunch of women standing round in bikinis/underwear, and some of them had slightly saggy tummy skin, and some were late 20's and late 30's, and were not obviously emaciated 16-20 yr old matchstick models, and I found myself instantly attracted to their natural beauty.

Fucking huge thumbs up to Dove for putting an advert on TV with REAL women, whom my daughter can look at, and thing "she's pretty, but isn't a beanpole with hair", and realise that this is how women look normally.

A recent comment from my daughter finally won me a months long battle with my wife, about letting our daughter (8 yrs), watch Americas Next Supermodel. She said that she though she was getting podgy, and wondered if she was eating too much fat, and was going to eat less. FFS she is 8 yrs old, and is looking at "dieting", that is just so damn wrong it's scary.

Overhaul the model industry completely, the "skin stretched over ribs" look is fucked up.

Yeah makes me sick. I think horror shows like '10 Years Younger' and the like don't anything for the self-esteem of young girls (and boys). Don't even get me started on 'The Swan' and 'What not to Wear'. Argh!!!

I don't see anything attractive about most runway models. They're way too skinny, really haven't got good figures at all, and the makeup they're made to wear and the clothes they model on the runway really don't do them any favours either. Really gotta appreciate more natural women out there, with curves and actual figures. You'd rather cuddle one of those than a "supermodel," you might get your eye put put by a wayward elbow!

Ooo, except those Victoria's Secrets girls. Some of those are very distracting...

I agree with you on all except this one - at least on that show they work with what the women have - they don't say "you have a fat arse, you need to diet", they show the woman the right sort of clothes to wear to make them look good no matter what their shape.

I've got a mate who used to be on tv commercials for soap powder (paid well, apparently!) and she is a very big girl - but she always looked immaculate because she dressed well.

If a person is naturally skinny (and a lot of people are - who posted on here once wanting to PUT ON weight?) then that is fine, but if they diet to be skinny because they feel that's what is normal, that isn't.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

I definately agree Kro!! Being a 'real' woman myself.. (with persistent 'post-child bearing' 'bits'..) I myself, like seeing the Dove add!!! it gives me affirmation that, although 10lbs loss might be of benefit.. that I still essentially look ok! (although.. I DO know that I WAS really born too short for my solid bone structure! )

Definatley a good look for our children to be seeing REAL people on the ever bombarding bloody idiot box!

Provided people are happy in them selves and generally healthy then body shape is kind of irrelevant despite constant portrayal of "ideal" beauty and the associated diet and fitness industries that never quite seems to deliver. Heaps of pressure on people to aspire to be a certain shape and really its just unrealistic for most. Viva la Difference I say

I thought this was going to be a discussion on rake and trail and skinny front forks. Oh how wrong I was.

Be careful guys, this may set a trend we'll all regret one day.
