I have a just turned six year old girl. She often comments about different TV programs who’s pretty and who’s not. And that she likes someone because of the way they look… I have always told her that even the most beautiful, slim person on the outside could be the most ugly person on the inside. I want her to grow up to have high self-esteem and love herself for who she is, not what she looks like, but to also be healthy.

The most annoying thing for me as a mother is the fact she wants to wear clothes that are too grown up for her. I love her to wear a cute little T-shirt and a pair of shorts… but you go into farmers and other clothing shops… there are some clothes that I wouldn’t even dream of wearing, short short skirts, singlet tops without backs, tops showing off their tummy. Little girls they think they are cool, but when I see little girls wearing them, they don’t look like little girls anymore.

We've had this discussion before Beemer. A show that puts a Woman into a room full of mirrors and has the woman take her top off (bra still on) to make her cry and then tell her that they are making her cry to 'build her up again' is amoral and not cool in my book.

One theory I read about the skinny models is that the models are trying to appeal to the designers - by looking like the designers boyfriends. So you've got the irony of women trying to look like boys to look attractive to gay male designers, who set fashion standards by designing clothes that would look best on young boys anyway.
