I`ll always help someone out if I can but I`m having second thoughts recently.First case,2 mates, one did the dirty on another and I was a witness.Villain of the piece was a very good friend of mine, did something really stupid(and illegal)which affected the other.Mate 2 then decides she`s going for the jugular(as I would in the circumstances),and asked me to back her up in a complaint against mate 1`s employers.Wanting to do the right thing but knowing it`d cost me a long-term mate I reluctantly did so.They then backed-down and end result was the end of a 10-year friendship while the other party moved away!!mate lost for nothing.Next case someone asked me to search for some information for a relative of theirs.Took me weeks,I travelled miles and spent time and money(neither of which was begrudged) trying to help this person. Finally hit pay-dirt and gave the info directly to the person who`d asked for it.Mate who asked me went ape-shit,accused me of going behind her back, ruining her life e.t.c.,person I`d chased around for delighted and oblivious to their relatives reaction.`Kin give up,is it really worth it?

    Well...

Ya gotta be careful for sure but I think we will all have similar stories to tell...

My rules are simple. I don't do anything for anyone that I would not want done to me. Meaning, I won't lie for mates to cover their infidelity or crimes. Any person that would ask you to do so is not a true friend.

Appart from that. Yes, I get ripped off, yes I get taken advantage of but you have to look at the big picture. If we all turn into small minded ingrates what the hell has it all been for?

    Selflessness IS godliness....

I still like the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. About the only rule that should never be broken. I no longer associate with a life long friend. He put the boot in, missed me and hit the wife, that's figurtively speaking. He's the loser not me. Develop the same attitude to deal with it Moku.

Like Paul says,it happens to us all.
I'm a real easy mark and I've been screwed over big time by people I've helped,so now I tend to be a bit like Motu sugests.
A friend in need is a pain in the ass.
