Today I witnessed two of those three wheeled mountain buggy/stroller things travelling, with mothers in tow, happily up the bike lane along Greenlane, against the traffic..... :spudwhat: If you had a little kid, would you run a stroller against the traffic, on the same level as the cars, on GREENLANE RD!!??? Looked dangerous to me... Also there would be the issue of oncoming cyclists... Wouldnt like to be in the buggy in that crash...oh:
Still, this seeming blatant disregard for the reality of the situation got me thinking....
The buggies run on larger wheels than normal toddler transport, they are made to go over rough terrain, and are capable of doing so if not built shoddily/with silly weak plastic bits that fall off. However, they are usually only used around town, to negotiate such hazards as footpaths and kerbs. They are mainly driven by the jogging/fitness type well-coiffed moms, who really have little need for their advantages and don't use them to their potential. They have become a fad/must have look, because normal prams are just soo last century dear. There is a rash of them out every weekend at the parks, carting little johnny around the soccer fields.
The obvious question must be asked... Are these buggies the SUV of toddler transport???:spudbooge
