Okay guys I need help here

Alright, I am female and my other half is out at a long meeting tonight... I have a very young child with me and it has finally registered that that bad smell that I have noticed on and off today (which I thought was the drains and now realised is not) reminds me of when we had pest controllers come and kill a rat in your bungalow back in Thailand days.... death.
We back on to a busy roundabout with a lot of ivy and a bike path and pedestrian underpass between us and the road.
I will admit that my sense of smell is pretty strong, but seriously, on a hot night like tonight, there is a serious bad smell about that is NOT from my house....
    What would you guys suggest.?
I don't want to go outside.... to get where I think the smell is coming from involves a big walk around the block and I've just put junior to bed.... spouse is not due home for a few hours (and seriously, can you imagine coming home and being asked to walk for half a km then searching for a dead smell), or do I call non emergency cops and outine problem?
We have only recently moved and don't know neighbours.
I think that is all relevant info...
I am in a quandry.... you see the ads on tv to call 111 if in doubt.... but seriously...argh?
    this is not a p/t

p.s. would appreciate law enforcement take on this

all very well for you guy to take the piss here....

Okay the ONLYb thing that is now stopping me calling the police is that every time I stick my head outside the window, I cop a breath of fresh air.... Outside the house I cannot pinpoint (or even smell) the source of the bad smell.

if you call the cops, make it low-key ........ think of the embarrassment if you get a dozen coppers doing an emergency roll up thinking its a murdered person and it turns out to be an ex-cat or something ...............

In that case it is probably something dead inside the house. Maybe the cat has killed a rat and left it under a bed or something similar. Go around your house and close ALL the doors, wait 30 minutes or so then check each room in turn and see where it is strongest. Check that room thoroughly. (Yes, our cats bring in everything from mice to rats to rabbits, so we've been there a number of times.)

Its made to smell like rotten meat, gas by itself was to often scentless so they gave it a scent people would notice. In fact (useless info time) guys looking for leaks in gas lines out in the desert in the US found that vultures would often be circling the gas leak, saving them alot of time searching in the sand.

They put amines in LPG so we can smell it as pure LPG has no smell. Two amines that decomposing bodies give off are cadaverine and putrescine. I'm not surprised that you clicked because I also have a lot of trouble telling them appart. And I've done the other thing too.

I kept smelling LPG as I ran past the botanic gardens to work and mentioned to friends and a week later a body was found under the bridge. Even worse was I saw a family inside the police tape having a picnic. How could you do that with the smell?
