Briton gets 15 years for killing Cypriot biker

Julian Harrington, 39, from Witham in Essex has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Cyprus court for the manslaughter of motorcycle passenger Christos Papiris, 17, and causing grievous bodily harm to rider Marios Demetriou, also 17.

Harrington had originally pleaded not guilty, but changed his plea during the trial.

The incident followed a fight at a nightclub in which a British friend of the defendant was injured. Despite Papiris and Demetriou not being present at the club, Harrington pursued motorbikes, seeking out the individuals who injured his friend. He rammed the youths' motorcycle with his rental car. Papiris hit a lamppost and later died of internal injuries.

Last time I was in Cyprus there were gangs of youths who used to go around looking for people to fight with. On the way back to base from the pub once we were attacked by two groups. One the police attended and blamed us for being out at night!!

Few years older than me - lived about five miles down the road from where I grew up. A lot of the people I went to school with ended up in Witham (more convenient for commuting to London) so I quite likely was at school with the twat.

I don't think your facts are quite right. Louise Jensen was Danish and a tour guide, not a club rep. She was abducted from her boyfriends motorcycle then taken and raped repeatedly. The soldiers then killed her with a spade. They deserved to rot in prison but Cypriot law is very different to ours.

fact of the matter is that a cage driving maniac has been put behind bars for hunting down and killing an innocent motorcyclist. irrelevant of race or nationality.

Fair enough Chris. I'm a dick for getting facts wrong & going off on a tangent. I shouldn't have got carried away. Only example of Cypriot law I knew with reference to biking
I finished my post with " our day will come" as I don't like British military. I'll keep those references to more revelant posts.
Sms is a human trait not confined only to Irish people. I believe what I believe. Sometimes right, sometimes wrong. Thats been shaped by my experiences in life.
I've eaten some humble pie. Shouldn't have opened this can of worms. Thats life.
