Nice vids - I was there... a great day.
Well.... one of the more eventful Trackdays and one I'll remember for a long time. Haven't written up much here recently so here goes...
I rode down Thursday night with Duckaddict and three others who hadn't done MotoTT trackdays before . My usual takeaways was closed so we had dinner at Portofinos. Was good to get to know a few new bikers esp Deepak who has good taste in food as well as bikes ( he rides a Blue/white GSX-R600 K6 ). Also bumped into Aaron Slight who was there with a group that had done a car trackday that day.
Friday dawned fine and after the customary gas stop and breakfast at Burburys we headed to the track. Quite a different crowd this time, lots of newer riders and a lot of the regulars were missing possibly because of the Nationals at Pukekohe this weekend. Made for a number of incidents during the day in the medium and newbie groups where the track got a little crowded during overtaking maneuvers. Also seemed to be more than the usual number of incidents overshooting turn 1.

First up was the "fast group" ( about 20 riders?). Unfortunately the ambulance had been called out and we had the choice of sitting out the session, or going out without ambulance support. After a 2sec discussion K6K and I decided we'd go out as the 1st session was always a "warm up" and we weren't going to push hard anyway. Most of the session went well. Got into the groove again quickly, but found my new Pilot Power 2CTs were sliding a bit, especially coming onto the front straight. Towards the end of the 20min session we had some drama as a rider high sided coming out of turn 5 and was injured badly enough to be air lifted to Rotorua hospital. He will be fine in the longer term, but it was a sobering reminder of how quickly things can go wrong in our sport!. Fortunately the ambulance had arrived by then.
We had 5 sessions each in total which still seemed enough track time on the day. I spent the day trying to increase my corner speeds in turns 3,4,5 and 6 where K6K had a big advantage over me and was successful to a degree. Really enjoyed session 3 where I spent the entire session chasing Rossi Gal.Almost got past her when she was baulked behind two others we had caught, but it would have been a bit tight!! Nice to meet you Rossi Gal and thanks for your concern. Kiwifruit had offered to show me a few shortcuts around the track a while back so we did this in the final session of the day. Had a great time again, especially trying to get around some of the bigger bikes.
Thanks Allan!!. Had the video camera mounted this session and currently uploading to Google Video. And the Pilot Power 2CTs performed beyond my abilities after that first session.....
Yet another highlight... as Allan said, I won one of the three free trackdays given away at lunchtime. Thanks MotoTT!Another great trackday....

My 1st track day at Taupo. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Had 2 sessions on med and 3 on fast. Anyone got any ideas how to battle them motards. My pegs were scraping and they still pass around the outside. So it felt good blasting past them on the straights, only to get passed again on the bends.
Had 1 big moment coming up to the L/H hairpin when under heavy braking the rear stepped out too far and tried to flick me off. Good fun though and looking forward to going back.
glad you enjoyed it
the motards are so much lighter, they can brake alot later and go in hotter, the guys that ride them usually have motocross experience and are pretty skilled (and have big balls).
they are usually the fastest on the day, with the exception of the long straight
phew! got a couple of pics of me pre bin![]()
alas the bike doesnt look so good right now...or the rider for that matter.
Well i hope you get better soon K6K, its damn fun out there so get you and your bike fixed up and get back out there!
You lucky buggar got to go for a ride in the chopper!
