Bandit 250 wheel position

Hey Guys ,

Just purchased a bandit 250 that had been in a head on. Frame and forks were replaced (not by me). I have the bike to near original condition but the wheel is off compared to the handlebars. Ive read up about it and apparently it just needs to have the triple clamps loosended and the forks twisted back around. I tried that tonight but all it did was twist the fork tube without moving the wheel back to its proper place. Is there any advice anyone could give me? I live in wellington, could someone come and take a look at it? Id be happy to pay for it..

I think the wheel should be slightly infront of the handle bars.

Is the wheel out and rubbing on the brakes, or are the forks twisted? If it is the wheel rubbing or looking like it is going off slightly to one side, start by loosening the wheel nuts and lining the wheel up. It may have been put back on in hurry.

If it is the forks that are out I guess you will need to have a check to make sure that they are not bent. They may be the original ones that have been bent back into shape, this is ok if it is done properly and they are straight.

Leave the top clamp done up. loosen the lower triple clamp. Straighten and then do up the lower triple clamp.

Do as Jim says. If the bike's had a big hit you might want to get the forks tested for straightness as well. They bend pretty easily, and can make the front end a bit nervous.

Very much doubt it! the forks were snapped upon impact. I will try loosen the wheel nuts as well. Either that or get someone who knows what they are doing to sort it out. The front end is the last thing I want falling apart!

Don't loosen the axle nuts. You want it fixed top and bottom so that the forks stay in line.

Thanks for your offer of help! Kiwi bikers . I decided I couldnt wait to ride the thing so I sent it off to a shop! You make total sense now, what I should have done in the first place.. Oh well, eventally I'll learn everything about these machines. Im keen!
