I'm looking for opinions/outlooks from folks from the Great North.
The good, bad or ugly as as far as shifting to Whangarei and the area in general.
I have always found Whangarei and the far north excellent but was only a visitor.
TIA

We've just moved from Whangarei to Tauranga.
Whangarei is a riders dream in some ways. A lack of cops apart from the obvious SH1...twin coast riding is easy done and heaps of fun.
Plenty of work if your have a hands on trade too as the place is still having a housing boom.
Been here for 5 years, just out off town in the country, sweat place if you like to be outside, good roads.![]()
Been in Whangarei all my life 'cept for OE. I'm still here tho I do believe NZ is the land of milk and honey. What kind of work do you do and are you looking at buying a house? There is no end of lovely beaches and bush walks etc etc. You need to do a temp stay prob to know for sure. Good luck.![]()
Lived in Dargaville (near Whangarei) for 18 years. Whangarei is kinda similar. I Wouldn't recommend
it if you have preteens or teenagers though. Thats my opinion. I left 17 years ago so things may have changed.

Interesting thoughts..........
1990 GSXR 750 - want one, can be crap, can be awesome....pm me.
Don't know much about living up there but it sure is a beautiful part of the country.
Just make sure you've had your shots. White people get spat on up there.
Cheap pot?
Kneescraper, I certainly aren't dising the place. In fact quite to the contrary:
I would probably move back now i'm all grown up (i.e., the people are really friendly and laid back, quite a relaxing place really. And only a short distance to the west coast ninety mile beach, the Kai iwi lakes, Opononi and Waipoua Forest) - its where my family roots are etc etc) - so it's always going to be
a special place for me.
But re the teenagers....Hopefully things may have changed.
I found when I was a teenager - there wasn't really a lot to do and jobs were limited - kind of a bit dead end unless you left and went to Uni. A few girls I knew became mums really young There seemed to be a lot of drug use, alcohol and partying going on with my age group. And this opinion seemed to be the general consensus.
But that may have been my perspective at the time.....I could be wrong - this was 17 years ago now. And its prolly like that everywhere!!
p.s They also have a great, very active historical society
