Told you it was boring but thank you for your input.
But Finn, is your new generator able to run 18/7 for three weeks? (That's how long it'll take to get power restored during a snow storm.)

Is your generator head PM or ST 4 pole?
What's the MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of the engine? 30,000+ hrs?

Thanks for sharing the fact most appliances can handle 110volts, I'll go and inspect my appliances tonight and see just how much of my house has that feature.
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

You'll love the Honda generators... not powerful enough? String another in the chain... they figure out how to sync waveforms and crap themselves, and they ramp up the speed under load. Perfect for your cold war bomb shelter

You haven't even HEARD the 2 stroke options though... a weedeater motor with an eccentric weight attached vibrates like you would not believe...
$2,000 cash if you find a buyer for my house, kumeuhouseforsale@straightshooters.co.nz for details

Shit - now I am interested - do I need to apologise for my shit posts or just head straight for my self interested questions

    Petrol or diesel powered?
    Bought locally or being shipped?
What freight cost? I got a 44 lb box (700 x 500 x 300) ground shipped from the US (USPS out of Texas) for US$70.

Took a month of sundays to get here but it's intact and all god

It's petrol and I was about to buy one from the US when one came up cheap yesterday on trademe. Don't UPS or FedEx heavy stuff. Use a normal freight company.

If you want one for home, get a second hand diesel unit. Diesel are much better for continuous use. For less than $4k you can get one that would run an average house but only in case of power blackout or back up to an alternative energy source.

Actually I've been studying alternative energy quite a lot lately. Solar, wind turbine, etc, etc and have a small system at home but not because I want to save the world, it's just cause I love gadgets.
