    WTB: 250cc learners bike

    Hey everyone, great site :-)

Looking at buying my first bike so what better place to come than here

I have my heart set on something like a GN250 or a Yamaha SR250. If anyone can suggest something else I should be looking at along those lines then im all ears.

But more importantly if anyone has a 2nd hand model of the above bikes then my ears are even bigger. Im ready to purchase when the right one comes along but in no hurry either.

    Thanks for ya time :-)

    I got one....

If you want a good bike then the Golf November 250 is great!
I have had mine for a few months (three) done over 7000km on it!
Great on the open road if you know its limits, i.e bout 100-105kph......

I have ridden all around the Waikato, Waipa, Bay of Plenty and more....Taken it to Auckland and have done 400km days on it, which is about the limit of the bum!

I stop every two hours or so for a coffee and a respite for the arse....

It will be on the market soon and it has given me no trouble except the once when the chain jumped off near Mangakino, no problem, just popped it back on and then had it replaced. At 100kph, does 6000rpm and can do it all day...

Hard on the hands sometimes, bumps a bit of a bugger but for a few moths of grief I have learnt lots and really gained tons of expereince on the roads...

    Serviced well and regular...

It is very good condition, been serviced at 1000km, and a touch over the 6000km. Tappets checked, oil, and new chain.....Faultless, goes well and with a polish will look great.

The thing with my bike is it has been ridden and ridden well, not namby pamby 2000km for 6 months around AKL or similar......All Highway rides and none shorter than 230km each time......

Can't wait until I get on the bigger machine though! Those Logging trucks really give you the heave ho!!

Hey dude, sounds great. What other details do you have? Age? Colour? How much Reg, warrant etc. And when are you thinking of letting it go?

If you have your heart set on a GN, then may I suggest you get the Yamaha SR? All round a better bike, I believe. Otherwise, look for a well-maintained older GN (Jap assembled - the new/er ones are Chinese made - enough said).
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Gidday mate, thanks for the advice. Im not really fussed either way, a GN or an SR, both very similar. I had read that the SR is a better bike but haven't yet found out what exactly. The GN is NZ's most popular bike so it can't be all that bad, can it?

What's better about the SR vs the GN in your opinion?

ps: love ya avatar lol. It wouldn't let me load a custom .gif file dammit >_<

Heh, it's on Trademe, follow his link.

Get an SR250! I like those GN250s are good bikes too, just look out for build quality, they are a Suzuki after all.
