The name on the car says it all - I wish the tank on my bike was bigger,I need to put something on my bike that really says who I am,that says so much but means so little.

Or, indeed, says so little and means so much. It's for the Japanese domestic market, where having something in English, however silly, means status and "face". The "meaningless" slogans that we read on Japanese SUVs are taken literally by the Japanese themselves and seen as appropriate to the image they would like to project, but the fact that this image is a distorted reflection of a Western ideal is not perceived by them, and indeed if the absurdity is pointed out to them they are likely to be either puzzled or hurt.Originally Posted by Motu

Not to mention that "Emina" in a rear-view mirror is "Anime".Originally Posted by MikeL

Read something somewhere about the Ford Pinto having terrible sales somewhere in South America. Someone finally figured out that over there "Pinto" means tiny penis or something

Zigactly, this one has the 3CT turbo diesel,a total nightmare.Although we did a service it had a leaking water pump - the owner said he was taking it back to the dealer, fine by me....I bet after doing the water pump it would show up a cracked cyl head - they all are.Originally Posted by Devil
All these small Jap diesels are nightmares, alloy heads with belt driven OHC,trouble just waiting to hit.So why do I have 3 of them? My Nissan Vanette with the LD20 has done 290,000km,one of the few good small diesels,my 4D56T in the Pajero has had a full recon,I have just got a 93 Laurel with an RD28,these motors are so bad the importers won't touch them anymore, the original motor is totaled so am fitting the only used engine left in Auck, this one is for my daughter.I reckon it's just poor maintinence, lets hope I'm right eh?

LOL - at last!!!! I thought I was the only one that saw the "issue" with that name.
i have started a folder of 'jap-glish' pix, it's just so classic. i had a card explaining how to use some fireworks somewhere - i laughed every time i read it. i guess though if we translated english into japanese it would be funny to them too....

Doesn't have to be. Almost anything can be translated into almost any language and sound natural if done by a competent (professional) translator.Originally Posted by marty
