i think crime rate is directly proportional to the number of coons in your 'hood.

    haha... A dig at aucklanders??...
Im proud to be a Kiwi & a JAFA!!... I've havent comitted any crimes or theifed anything...
Our house (lived there my whole life, im almst 23.) has never been broken into or been robbed... Outta the quite a few cars I've had in the last... 8 years... only one has been broken into (at work)... Mums car had a crappy stereo stolen from home once... but apart from those couple of instances... nothing to complain about... parents workshop has been ram raided a couple of times in the last 30 odd years (steel poles in the way now)...

There is Crime yeah... but if you do everything in your power to avoid being a victim of crime... it is less likely to happen...

Car alarms... bike locks/alarms... dogs at home... house alarms... dont leave valuables in sight... etc and so on... minimise the risk...

While it annoys me that we should have to do this, I agree that people need to take these steps. But how do you minimise the risk of toerags vandalising vehicles parked on the street, knocking off wing mirrors etc? I don't have off-street parking for visitors....

Fold wing mirrors in... and have an alarm... I stay out west prob half the week nights... I park outside partners house, on the rd... if my alarm goes off... im outta bed n outside like a rocket!!...

If anyone touches my car... due to a good alarm... We'll all know about it... & im not the only one that shoots out there either... flatmates & partner do too... If I had a munter for a car... I wouldnt care... but its not.. Its like my precious along with my bike lol... (Its even the most STOLEN type of car in NZ) & I've never had any problems... The alarm goes off... they freak n take off, esp with dog barking... & 4 or so people rushing out lol
IF my car was to get vandalised.... I have insurance... sometimes shit happens... just do what you can to minimise the risk... & be prepared if something did happen, with insurance/replacement vehicle, whatever...

No, in this context shit doesn't happen. Shitheads make it happen.

And people who accept the problem just make it worse.

Ah the good old crime thread...

If you look at the stats that the politicians use to measure crime, we are winning the battle and yet the perception among the general population is that the streets are less safe than they were.

My belief is that Police management look at the figures for serious crime and think that things are going OK because, lets face it most of them live in OK areas and drive to work in nice cars.

A New York’s ‘Broken Windows’ type policy is required. Attending to the ‘little’ crimes that directly affect peoples lives every day makes a bigger difference.

Paul, surely things *have* got worse. There's a murder at least every week and sometimes once a day.

Once upon a time a single murder was front-page news for weeks and weeks and weeks.

That scares the shit out of me and I'm a Jafa, happily not living there.

Yeah I agree with you... But... sometimes... you can do all you can... and it will still happen...
so in that respect... shit does happen... there's nothing you can do about it after the fact... sort it out.. fix it up... whatever... people do stupid things... but thats unpredictable... people do what people do... whether it be right or wrong... it does happen...
When my car got broken into, they stole my bowling gear (custom) which would have been of no use to anyone but me... sized for my hand etc... that was like loosing my babies... they'd been all over the world with me... and then they got stolen... while I was earning money... I did what I could... watched hours and hours of video tapes from the carpark cameras... found the car that did it... it took less than a minute... Gave a copy to the police AND the insurance company... they didnt care about the video and catching them... they just filled out the report... and paid out...
In that sense... there was nothing more I could have done... I had to accept the fact that my stuff was gone... and its just something that... happens...

You Aucklanders need to learn how to goat-pool, instead of everyone insisting on having their own goat and riding it every morning and evening.
Better still - a decent public goat system.
