To every man upon this earth
Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods
Lol. Yeah probably. But you keep hearing this same viewpoint perpetrated over and over again by script kiddies, that they're somehow doing the rest of us a `service' by defacing sites, which is a load of crap. There are only very narrow confines where such a defacement or other malicious act is acceptable -- if the administrator has been notified several times already, and has ignored or denied the possibility of a security issue. Contrary to your opinion, Renegade, nine times out of ten notifying whoever is in charge (especially of a large commercial website like that) will result in some investigation.
If the issue is still not taken care of, and you really feel strongly that it should be taken care of, there is no need to put bullshit cracker-speak on the page -- perhaps something more constructive like the security flaws exploited to give you write access to the page -- I've seen it done.
These are just mindless little kids, using somebody else's pre-written scripts and exploits, trying to impress their mates. Nothing more.
Have you ever tried keeping websites patched up? Might not even be their fault...some of NZ's hosts including iHug are running on old $hite servers

But for low-end script-kiddie wannabes like it looks took care of Honda NZ, they must've left it lying around for a while. In these days of `Patch Tuesday', it's not nearly as hard as it used to be.
I had a vB I admined hacked through the server once. Fucktards redirected to a page they had created which so kindly informed we had been hacked. 5 minutes later the site was back on board, but as so many have said before... its generally ugly snot nosed kids who can't get laid that bother to sit and do it.
Yep...complete arseholes. Proper "hackers" do something interesting, normally take money and/or leave no tracks.
Most of the sites I handle are just SME businesses so unless there's a glaringly obvious security flaw (Mambo calendar events component springs to mind) I just regularly back them up and leave them alone. If they get hacked I then apply patches and have them up and running pretty sharpish.
Of course, for the handful of SSL sites taking credit cards that I manage I'm a bit more pro-active.

Whether the hardcore *nix nerds like it or not, "hacking" is NOT just the terminology applied to kernel hackers etc. For better or worse it is the term accepted by the vast majority of people to apply to the act of breaking computer security. Then again script kiddies dont really deserve to be called either hackers or crackers. I personally use the term hacker for both the alan coxes and kevin mitnicks of the world, but tend to only apply it to black hats that are actually capable of discovering exploits themselves &* crafting exploits rather than simply running a scan tool :-)
To me a cracker is someone who removes copy protection from software. Generally they are also fairly skilled programmers. This definition is fairly popular given the amount of cracks available on the net :-)
Definlty not worth yelling and screaming about though lol.
.
why even bother attacking the honda site - its pretty pathetic really.
like tagging on a tui billboard really - all you prove is that your a cock
