My bike wont go- help needed ?

Hello all. I have a suzukii gsx250 fl which is currently not going. I have cleaned out the carbs ( 2 carb feeding 4 cylinders ) and allthough it ran at first, it ran at full noise. So I take it off, sort it out again, and put it back on. However, now it wont go at all. Any and all knowledge would be appreciated

sounds like a fuel problem, I suggest using "carb clean" ( made by crc and available at repco etc to make sure that your needle valves aren't jammed shut/open and everything moves properly, and when you get it back together check to make sure all cylinders are sparking nice healthy blue sparks before continuing, also check to make sure sufficient fuel is getting to the carbs in the first place, you may have a rusty/or dirty tank and have clogged your filter cheers Lucy

gidday storm first check if it is really a carb problem, by removing the spark plugs earthing them to the cyl head and turning over the engine.check that there is aspark.check at the same time that the plugs are clean and not wet looking.[flooded] if so turn off fuel and turn over until fuel has evaporated.my wife has told me she is answering your postand willexplain stuk sliders or pistons in the carbs and how to clean them.ps.carb balance is important can be roughly checked whten the engine is running by looking directly into the carb throats and reving the engine at different speeds the slides should move in sync indicating that the vacumfrm each cylinder is balanced.good luck.

Have already used at least 3/4 of a can of crc carb clean !! Fuel is definitly getting to the float bowl and the sliders arent stuck, althought I am not sure if they are moving when the throttle opens. I did the earthing test before starting on the carbs and its all good. The slides were stuck open and she ran- at top of the revs no less . Cant get the engine running to check it out though

leave the spark plugs out for a few hours it's probably flooded to hell and back by now,

hey mate, if this is the same engine as the GSXR250 in putmans bike ive worked on the carbs a little and how far did you go cleaning them out ? also you didnt play with any mixture screws or anything weird like that did you ?

Um,I often buy non running bikes off people who have had a little play around,like,it used to go,then I cleaned out the carbs and I can't get it running - I often get them for free,but sometimes have to slip them some folding.I take the bike home,turn the slide around the right way in the carb,then have a nice cheap bike to play around on.Don't let this out please,my supply of cheap bikes might dry up.

I took the float bowls off and blew out all the jets and hoses I could reach with the compressor hose nozzle. The slides havent had anything done besides a little bit of lube (CRC Long Life ) on them as one was sticking slightly. Didnt touch any screws etc. Unless I knocked the sleeve that guides the needles, I cant think of anything else.

I remember once I crossed over the slides in the carbs and it screemed its head off. the message is most problems that start small and get big are introduced by error and ignorance. but the upside is learning.
try to return to spec. you will need the manual and the tools to do that if you dont have either go to the shop. and ask for a quote for repair. at least they will have to diagnose your problem to quote then you can decide.

sounds to me what you've done is two mistakes. First you connected the throttle up wrong (easy to do) then you have flooded it in your panic to get it going --I bet ya anything your plugs are damp. The modern plugs dont seem to handle a good dowsing too well. Youll need either new plugs or if ya lucky get the old ones sand blasted

hmm blowing with compressor... coulda jammed all the floats up or something no? Did they fall back down nicely? other then that blown shit up the worng way or something and gummed her up! bet your tank is diaphgram operated - have u tried running her straight off a bottle of petrol and blocking the vacuum line? (could be the tap u see)

shit Im an eeejut --hey dude have you put the slides in twisted ? As in do they still slide right to the bottom? They might besitting up on the pegs in the carb bore
The plugs are probably still stuffed though.

Thanks for all the info. I cleaned the plugs but still no go, so admitted defeat and took it to the shop.. Hopefully I will be on it sometime next week. Its going to be a long long weekend

Thanks to all those who offered advice. My bike is now back from the shop and running like a dream. So its off to the other end of wharever road takes my fancy this weekend :cool2:
