Depends on the age i guess .. for a new bike every 5000Ks until you've done about 20 thou .. and then once every 10ish ..

    I'm sure i'll corrected if i'm wrong

If you can find a manual for your bike it lists what needs servicing and when. For an older bike you could learn to do a fair bit yourself, both to save cash and to learn about your machine.

that far apart? sheesh, I service my 7 every 5k, little service on the 5s, full service on the 10s, and go by what the mechs recommend...

Go by the manual, if you have it, otherwise, I serviced my 7 every 5 thousand... I wouldn't do it by month, and no-one I would have thought would recommend either, due to the massive difference in how many k you could travel.

I service mine every time I have 300 bucks.... usally every year or so.....
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

When people say "service" what does that include?

I usually just change oil/filter every 5000km and plugs, etc when I feel that they need to be changed. Other than that I don't do anything until problem arises....

    Should I be doing more?
I have deep pockets. It's just that it's a deep empty pocket...........

If you're using a shop to do it... I found it nice and easy just to follow their advice... I'm paying for their services anyway...

    Shop? What???? HUH???

The shop only gets to touch my bike when I REALLY REALLY fuck it up, and only in small bits at a time...

Yes. There's more to servicing than just oil, filter and plugs.

Valves will need gap inspection, adjust if required, every 6,000km.
    Tighten chain as required.
Lube chain every 200-500km and clean when you feel it's dirty.
Check & clean air filter every time you inspect spark plugs.
    Replace spark plugs every 12,000km.
Check tyre pressures once a week.
Replace brake fluid once a year.
Check all lights weekly, especially brake light.
Once a month give the bike a detailed once over for other stuff - loose nuts, cracked brake/fuel hoses, etc.
Not sure about cam chain frequency
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

Don't forget Fork Oil, Cam chain wear, drive chain wear, steering head bearing, wheel bearings, general nut and bolt tightness, glycol in a watercooled bike, fuel and air filters, throttle play, clutch adjustment and anything else you can think of.....
