    Art Deco Weekend

Went down to Napier last weekend for the Art Deco celebrations, and took the steam train up to Wairoa for the day. Had a bit of a blast, the trip home was a slow one as it was drizzling and the train was having trouble with traction heading up the inclines. Not that it worried us overly much, we had a chilly bin with eats and bubbles and just sat round talking shit and playing cards.

The pics are fairly poor quality as we forgot the camera so they are just off my phone - had to turn the brightness up to compensate for the cloudy day and so they are a bit over exposed, but you still get the idea. Highlight should have been going over the Mohaka Gorge, but there are tall sides to it so you cant really see that much - got a vid of us going over but cant seem to attach vids to this thread. Oh well.

Also saw amongst the old planes at the air port a Pitts Special - Marty, were you in town for it too?

We've never done the steam train trip, but I do take the grandkids on the traction engine trundle.
The vintage car/bike parade is always awesome...it is a fun weekend, growing bigger every year.
You should have said you were coming here, we could have met up...

Had a busy weekend to be honest, not much spare time. My girlfriend's parents live in Napier and we go down semi regularly, however as we normally drive there and back in a weekend it doesn't actually leave us much time in the Bay! Would be nice next time I bring the bike down to actually organise a meet and maybe a ride with you guys though.

    Haha, secret spot

Somewhere North of Wairoa, but about 30 mins up a gravel road. If you can find it, there is a stack of inner tubes to slide down the waterfall on, plus some swings out into the pool, and a little fire/picnic spot. One of the nicest places to spend a sunny day actually.

Yeah bugger I had to miss it this year because I went to the Chris Cairns Foundation charity dinner in Auckland but we went last year and me and Mrs merv dressed the part and the whole thing was fun - see photo. Next year again maybe. Haven't done the train trip but that would be cool.

Finn you can't have been at the dinner at SkyCity on Saturday because the weekend with Earl Spencer only sold for $18,000 so I'm guessing you rich guys stayed away.

Didn't even know the Princess rooter was in town. Besides, I wouldn't pay $18,000 for a night out with a ginger.
