    yeah, been out in a few storms when racing on yachts, great fun being the bowman and putting the storm jib up in those situations, but there's waves...and then there's those frecking things!!!

    heard some interesting storys in my job, of ships in the middle of oceans.

    and some arn't even in middle some are really bad ones from ships just travelling between nz/aussie

    Dunno about ships but we've just completed work on the underpass for the Wellington Airport runway extension. If you're around the area have a look at some of the rocks that get 'chucked' up into the wash pit. They had to move one with the 10 tonne lift crane. That's not even at sea where waves get proper sized.

    Going to require the services of a rather large crane, to lift the two halves of HMNZS Wellington from the end of the runway........

    I work on a boat, and I am glad I don't go out where the waves get that big! Cook Strait gets pretty mean, but people tend to stay in harbour when actual green water is washing over the side.
