Short notice ride, Howick to Kaiaua (25 March)

Me and a few mates are going to leave from Highland Park Mobil at 1130 for a ride out to Kaiaua and back. All welcome, but would not be suitable for newbie riders. If you can ride a 250 well, you are welcome.

Never mind. Was going to also warn you the road from Kawakawa Bay to half way to Orere Point (all the good twisty bits) has just beed resealed. heaps of loose gravel so won't be much fun for a month or so. The sods should be made to sweep the road after a week.

Was out this way this morning and as Beyond said, the good bits are covered in loose gravel.

I don't understand why they leave the gravel on top, why not sweep it straight away ?

Haha found out the hard way guys...I havent ridden that area since November last year, so was not expecting it...made for a slow arse ride, but went home through hunua, so still have some reasonable twisties to hit, that Jeff Hill Rd or whatever it is leading back into Clevedon is just absolutley amazing!

I went out that way between 4 and 6 this afternoon, and well... I suppose its all been said. What a highlight it was going into one really tight downhill corner, to suddenly find that I am actually on a pile of gravel, and not a wheel track.

A note has to be made on a couple of cars tho, they were extremely nice to actually move to the side of the road in some twisty bits, with few places to pass... didn't know how to thank them more... not like they will read this I guess.

I don't know about others, but I find until that new chip (which already looks damaged in corners) starts to turn black, I don't have much faith in it, too much gravel hiding etc.

Hey Brett, I think you mean Skyline Road from Hunua then at the top of the ridge it turns into Monument Road and yep, that's the peice of road I scrub my tyres in on and test rode the ZX14 last year.

Even in winter the north side is good for a squirt as it dries off normally when other roads stay damp and yeah, it's a great run through there athough a little short.

yeah, me to. Till the stuff turns black, it's always dicy. Seems to loose gravel for sometime while it's light grey. Can't understand why contractors aren't forced by law to sweep and suck the crap off the roads. Worst is once the cagers have made their tracks they take the 30kmh signs away and you come around a corner apexing nicely to find yourself in a pile of crap up to your footpegs
