Anyway when are you coming down to stay - you're always saying you are on your way and would love to meet us - yet you find some pathetic excuse at the last minute - as in, "my budgie died' or, "my haemarrhoids are playing up", and the latest, "It's that time of the month and I wouldn't want to make a mess"....

so disappointed in you HXC. I told you. Swedish. Blonde. Female!!

Best of luck with the venture. I doubt there is another family in NZ who could make an exchange student feel more comfortable and fit in.

Yeah, their fringes keep their faces warm.

Emo...another label that people think they know everything about. I know it's part of human nature, but why do people stereotype and label people. Pathetic little beings we are.

Good luck with this, over the years my family has hosted students from all over the world, it a great experience. We were an emergency host family so if students were having issues with their host families or as happened from time to time the host family they were supposed to stay with pulled out at the last moment they had somewhere to stay until things could get sorted. Unfortunately we had to recommend a couple of students got sent back home but that number was so small.

My sister went overseas on an exchange program and ended up getting married to a cousin of her host family.
Its not the destination that is important its the journey.

Wow, I'm amazed that you remembered my birthday, let alone arranged for a young Finnish guy to arrive that day as my present! Bring him down to Manfeild on the 4th, I don't mind waiting!

As for his English - I have a few Finnish friends and they all speak excellent English. One said all their movies are in the original English speaking versions with subtitles, so they are used to hearing the language spoken all the time.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

Good on ya guys! what a great thing to do, this will give you all stories to tell for years to come! lol
Make sure you bring him out from time to time, so he can learn that you guys aren't the only crazies around, take him to a KB gathering and he will realise you are just wonderful! lol

    Wow that is awesome!

I guess you (hXc) will get to hear about Finland and decide if it is the place for you, he is more likely to be honest with you about it.

Good luck with it all, it isn't too far away now!!

Will he be at high school with Zac?

Thanks Mac. You are looking shaky in the christmas card stakes....
And yes, Buffy. At the same school, but in the next year group.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Chorus: Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I want to be,
    Pony trekking or camping,
    Or just watching TV.
    Finland, Finland, Finland,
    It's the country for me.

Verse: You're so near to Russia,
    So far from Japan.
Quite a long way from Cairo,
    Lots of miles from Vietnam.

    Chorus: Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I want to be,
    Eating breakfast or dinner,
Or snack lunch in the hall.
    Finland, Finland, Finland,
    Finland has it all.

    Verse: You're so sadly neglected,
    And often ignored,
    A poor second to Belgium,
    When going abroad.

    Chorus: Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I quite want to be,
    Your mountains so lofty,
    Your treetops so tall.
    Finland, Finland, Finland,
    Finland has it all.

    Repeat: Finland, Finland, Finland.
The country where I quite want to be,
    Your mountains so lofty,
    Your treetops so tall.
    Finland, Finland, Finland,
    Finland has it all.

    Fade: Finland has it all...
