Best ISP?

Im wondering which ISP you guys use and how good they are price wise and the amount of data you are allowed.

Im currently with IHUG and pay $60 a month for unlimited data but......you can only use 500mb every 3 days or they will cut your download rate by half so this means I can hardly download a thing which means the uncapped data ends up becoming quite pointless.
So Im after something around 30-50GB per month with no retarded 500mb cap on it.

Suggestions??

no traffic shaping here. plans are based on daily limits before you get slow down. 1.4GB a day ~ 42GB a month, but you'll see more than that.

im with orcon, get niceish speeds and no (or not as much) traffic shaping and no caps/limits - $70/month for max/max 15gbs

plus they've been the first to announce adsl2+ and vdsl2+ so there is no way (or need to) im changing isps

I'm on Telstra's PDQ plan. Pay for the speed you want then pay $3 for each gig you use, or buy 10 gig up front for $12

Normally recommend Orcon or Actrix to my customers. Mostly due to the quality of service and helpdesk. If you're calling mobiles, abroad or outside the local area a lot then you must take into account is the toll call costs. The differences between the ISP's is staggering.

Orcon are pretty good.. I was with them before I switched to xtras go leech plan (which yes its speeds suck, but I still average 80-100gb on it even though they throttle the shit out of it)

I want max up and down, with no throttling , and no data cap for under NZD$50 a month :-(

I think i'm gonna be waiting awhile yet.

lots of techies here... so you will get differing opinions like always...

I'll chuck my vote in for Orcon, they are not just about home dsl plans... but I suppose thats all you need. Start getting into the Max/Max Line speed plans, and Orcon is going to be roughly $20 cheaper a month, for the comparable stuff of Xtra. Their new way of being able to completely make up your own plan is quite handy too.

Standard practise of static IP's is useful if you require it, help desk is good (even better when you have an account manager and can ring corporate support )

If you are comparing plans, just make sure you're including or excluding tolls. Orcon is upfront on their plans page, Xtra for example has a little asterisk stating it assumes you have tolls with them etc.

Yeh I'm on the Go Large... it's not about speed, it's about caps, and I like the fact that I can download whatever I like and not worry about busting caps, it may take twice as long to download something, but to get a full speed plan that lets me download the 60-70Gb that I do every month would be more expensive than what I pay now.

Sorry to 'necro' an old thread, but it seems like a sensible place to post...

Anyone here have experience with Kiwilink naked DSL?

We need naked DSL at home, as we don't have a phone line and are unwilling to have anything to do with Telescum.

AFAIK, Kiwilink are currently the only naked DSL plans around (for now...)

Any input appreciated.

PS we're in the Waitakere ranges, so woosh et al are not options.
