Canterbury road riders: Where the hell are you?

Sorry in advance, having a bit of a shitty evening...

Where the bloody hell are all the Christchurch riders? Hardly any seem to bother posting on KB, yet there are hundreds. There are almost never any regular Christchurch / Canterbury (fuck, I don't bloody care any more if it's in Christchurch as long as I can get there on a tank of gas and have an enjoyable ride with someone / several someones) rides organised, at least thru KB - take a look in the Meetings and Events forum and there are heaps of regular rides going elsewhere in the country on various weeknights... even a ride for mentors and newbies to go and practice things. I'd say I'm a little past the "complete newbie" stage, but I'm still keen to learn. But to learn, you gotta go ride. I'd like to ride with other people....

That's the problem. I've met a couple of people on KB, all good, you're good guys too the lot of you. But god damnit do you think I can find anyone in Christchurch to ride with on anything near a regular basis? Um, nup. Been trying for fucking ages, and nothing close to success yet. I try bribing with beer at the end of the ride, and still no takers. Okay, okay, I only ride an old single cylider 250cc bike (bigger than a bucket ), and I can understand that guys who ride bigger bikes don't necessarily want a 250 holding them up. But us newbies need a bit of encouragement now and then... I sure wouldn't mind some. Hell - come and follow me over Dyers Pass Road to Godley House out at Diamond Harbour... and bloody see if I don't get the NZ to boogy. Guys who go on the Sportzone Suzuki rides have seen it. Sure, I can't do more'n 150km/h (and that takes a runup...) tapped out on a long straight (on a closed, private road / unused runway / bathtub), but the twisty bits don't need that kind of speed. 'Sides, I'm not going to be on a 250cc forever, and I'd like to have someone to ride with when I get my bigger, shinier set of wheels.

Come on you lot. Come and have a ride with me. I wanna meet some more good people from Chch, people I can ride with regularly, who can show me new roads to ride and new pubs to drink (water of course ) at. And some contructive opinion on my standard of riding, and what I can do to improve, I'd like that. I will point out right here, I do like to ride briskly, and I love fanging through the twisty bits. But I'm honestly a careful rider, not a young hoon... you won't catch me overstepping my limits. I like to have fun, and I like to ride briskly, but I value my licence and my life.

Post here or PM me, whichever. I don't mind what you ride either, be it Japanese or otherwise, sprotsbike or otherwise.

Most of us do go for a wee blat in the weekends, and Speedy has ya number so she'll let ya know. We just dont tend to post about it cos it is usually a spur of the moment thing, quick ring around and out we go. And there aint NO issues about you being on a 250 or anyone else for that matter, we were all there once... well MOST of us
But having said that, it'll be nice to have a blat somewhere this weekend... maybe different to Akaroa, altho having said that it has been ages since i went there too.

...and as for you being bikeless Mr S, is that any different to before?
And just when will you get a more/less sensible bike???

Always keen mate. I'm not working at the moment, so I don't do very much during the week... I suspect that's part of the reason why I went a bit mental last night and made that post. I do go for rides most weekends, even if I don't get an invite to go anywhere I usually turn up to Sportzone like a bad smell on Saturday afternoon. I like riding with them, because most of the time they choose nice roads to go and ride on, and there's usually a good mix of riders, fast and a bit slower. Still, when a straight comes along they pass me going like 40 bastards. Can't blame them, but yeah.

Cheers Rashika, Sat or Sun? I like going to Akaroa, 'cept for the first bit where I'm only trying to keep up coz of the straights! I don't mind where we ride to tho, there'll be long straights nearly anywhere! But don't worry, I won't be on a 250 forever. Come November I'm sitting my full... the NZ's registered way past November so I won't need to register it again... just a WOF in October. All the work that needed doing on it has been done too. Something else I noticed... it runs way better on 91 octane. No idea why, but I get 40km more out of the tank (8L tank remember!), and it seems to run better and uses way less oil. Not complaining.

Anyone wants to ride midweek, or just catch up for a beer at lunchtime or whatever, just drop me a text, I'm usually just waiting by the phone for a recruitment agency to ring me anyway.

I'm wondering if I have the right number or if it got entered into my phone wrong. Did you get my text? I haven't sent you a text in the past for a couple of reasons... either thinking you'd be frustrated riding with a 250, or thinking you'd be too busy. When are you available? I don't want to be pestering you if you're not available half of the time.

Nah, got your text now bro. No good today mate, I'm still trying to shake this fucking flu and headache. But you've got the right number. Just try any time, you won't be pestering me, and my schedule changes on a daily basis. And I've no problem with riding with you on a 250.

Hey I'm keen for rides, I do not get out neally enough for the short arvo, or part day trippers.
Though I have had my share of getting away to rallies (the Brass this weekend )thankfully the other half is very good about it.
Gotta make sure I do not overstep the fine line though, dont want me kids scarred through my continual absense.... lol

I work around one weekend a month, but otherwise keen as chips....

Cheers mate. Hope the flu situation improves for you soon, the weather's looking good for this weekend. I can't blame any senior mod having a headache at this stage!!

Added you to MSN as per your message.

I like riding my 250, which is good because I don't really have any other choice at the moment. In an ideal world I'd like to ride with people who have the types of bikes I'd like to upgrade to... and they'd of course offer me a ride on their bikes too! I'm really keen to try some other bikes out... but I'm never going to ask anyone for a ride on their pride and joy... I know how torn I'd be if they were asking (and it's not worth much), even if I totally trusted them.

I like staying close-ish to Christchurch at the moment, because my bike's not too good on the open road. Riding to Diamond Harbour is always fun, same with Akaroa... but those are really the only roads I know well. I don't like the summit road that much, because it's a bloody goat track and I'm not confident in the surface. I'm keen to try some rides further afield from Christchurch though... Lewis and Arthur's passes, ride up to Nelson... and dare I say it, Wellington and the surrounding areas once I've got a larger bike. I feel a several day tour coming on... Welly riders, look out!

Cool Quen, look forward to having a ride with you. Have added your number to my phone... I posted my number a couple of posts back, feel free to drop me a text whenever you feel like a ride, even if I have to ride out to Rangoon to meet up with you.
