Sorry in advance, having a bit of a shitty evening...
Where the bloody hell are all the Christchurch riders? Hardly any seem to bother posting on KB, yet there are hundreds. There are almost never any regular Christchurch / Canterbury (fuck, I don't bloody care any more if it's in Christchurch as long as I can get there on a tank of gas and have an enjoyable ride with someone / several someones) rides organised, at least thru KB - take a look in the Meetings and Events forum and there are heaps of regular rides going elsewhere in the country on various weeknights... even a ride for mentors and newbies to go and practice things. I'd say I'm a little past the "complete newbie" stage, but I'm still keen to learn. But to learn, you gotta go ride. I'd like to ride with other people....
That's the problem. I've met a couple of people on KB, all good, you're good guys too the lot of you. But god damnit do you think I can find anyone in Christchurch to ride with on anything near a regular basis? Um, nup. Been trying for fucking ages, and nothing close to success yet. I try bribing with beer at the end of the ride, and still no takers.Okay, okay, I only ride an old single cylider 250cc bike (bigger than a bucket
), and I can understand that guys who ride bigger bikes don't necessarily want a 250 holding them up. But us newbies need a bit of encouragement now and then... I sure wouldn't mind some. Hell - come and follow me over Dyers Pass Road to Godley House out at Diamond Harbour... and bloody see if I don't get the NZ to boogy. Guys who go on the Sportzone Suzuki rides have seen it. Sure, I can't do more'n 150km/h (and that takes a runup...) tapped out on a long straight (on a closed, private road / unused runway / bathtub), but the twisty bits don't need that kind of speed. 'Sides, I'm not going to be on a 250cc forever, and I'd like to have someone to ride with when I get my bigger, shinier set of wheels.
Come on you lot. Come and have a ride with me. I wanna meet some more good people from Chch, people I can ride with regularly, who can show me new roads to ride and new pubs to drink (water of course) at. And some contructive opinion on my standard of riding, and what I can do to improve, I'd like that. I will point out right here, I do like to ride briskly, and I love fanging through the twisty bits. But I'm honestly a careful rider, not a young hoon... you won't catch me overstepping my limits. I like to have fun, and I like to ride briskly, but I value my licence and my life.
Post here or PM me, whichever. I don't mind what you ride either, be it Japanese or otherwise, sprotsbike or otherwise.
Ryan
