Make sure you put that KB flag up so as to make it visible. I've told friends I would meet them there in the past and never seen them yet!!!

Was a great weekend, a bit wet to begin with, but once the fires got started, it was all good.

After a bit of a hard night Friday I was feeling rather Saturday. I think I spent alot of time just staring at the burning embers...

Here are some pics from the weekend.
    I might write somthing later...

Got home safe last night and my kids came running down the stairs going "Dad! Dad! Dad!" They had baked me a welcome home cake and all. I should go away more often - lol.

I'll write up my trip report tonight.

    Fantastic trip!

Trip report day 1 of 7 - Orks to Welly

Woke up at 3am, that sort of wide awake, I'm not going to go back to sleep sort of awake, ggggrrrrr.

So I got up and did the abloutions et al, some breakfast and on with the gear.

I was on the road at 4am and I thought I would have the roads to myself. No. Bloody cars and trucks everywhere at 4am. Anyway, boring trip down the motorway over the bombays to see if there was really any south of there.

I was making up my mind on the way which route to go and decided on the western route. So I turned right at Ngaruawhaia and as soon and bloody fog. So I crawled for a while and took a left turn to get back on the main drag at Te Awamutu. The fog was less from there.

Nothing of note thru to Waiuru where I had a chat with a guy who gave me shite about how much gear I had stacked on my bike other than it started to warm up from there.

The trip thru to Welly was a yawn and I got there at 12:00. I checked with the ferry people (Bluebridge) if there was an earlier crossing I could get on (was booked for 8am Thursday) and the options were 1pm or 3am so I stuck with the Thursday booking and arrived late for the Welly lunch.

Nice to meet you lot! - and I didn't get a hug from the big guy.

I took a leisurely ride around Welly in the arvo and have a couple of pics to post later.

I bumped into Sels1 again at Welly M'cycles where I'm sure he was oggling one of the new Tigers.

Day 2 of 7 Welly to Hanmer Springs

Got to the Ferry early as woke up early again. It was blowing real hard (unusual for Welly I hear). Talked to a few others who arrived and were doing the Brass and a couple off to Nelson for the weekend.

I was expecting a rough crossing given the wind but it was remarkably calm - go figure.

Decided to do the east coast as the forecast for the West was BAD.

Good ride to Kaikoura where I met Bass-Treble and his Dad. We rode the inland route from there to Hamner Springs together, where they did a u turn as they were staying close to chch that night. Nice twisties and no traffic.

I had 2 moments on the inland route to HS, the first was where I banged it down a couple of gears into a tight right hander and had a little rear wheel slide and the second was a BIG rear wheel slide going thru a tight left hander over a tar sweat with loose stones on it.

Stayed at Rosies (biker friendly motel sort of a place) at HS. $90 including breakfast, on Cheltenham Rd about 100m from the pools and shops.
