    John of God

There are expected to be in excess of 4000 people attending this event in the Town Hall lower Hutt, between today and Sunday.

'John of God' - a brazilian car salesman turned spiritual healer.

For only $600 per person per day, you too can be 'healed'.

Or, for $250 you can relax on the 'crystal beds'.

If that doesn't take your fancy, how about a bottle of blessed water for only $45 ?

I hear that the water tap has been blessed - saves time on each individual bottle I guess while John is busy 'healing' people.

Judging from the accents, people follow this guy all around the world.

    Lots of people seem to need to believe anything these days. While God seems an unlikely enigma (not christian bashing you understand, just how many people have you meet that have talked to him?) someone who can stand up and claim to have healed people of anything is seen as somewhat of a God themselves. Just makes me think of Cletis from the simpsons;
"go to the medicine man that make me all better'
The real mystery is how come that fat bastard Hurley has never lost any weight.

    Good call.

Tis' funny that the organisers 'need' a brand new top of the line BMW to get from A to B.

I didn't think 'men of God' needed material things of great value.

It's a little scary though - I feel like a black man in 1930's south America. Everyone is wearing white and mostly robes, sans the hoods.

    Devils advocate time!
I heard the sessions were $150

There is more to this world than meets the media eye.
I believe there is validity in spiritual and holistic healing healing.
Coming form a mainframe computer background and being very A, B, C 1, 2, 3, I was very skeptical of all this guff when the mother of my children got into it all (crystals at 1st) but after seeing so many unexplained healings and such, I've changed my mind on such things.

Placebo effect? Well who gives a fuck how the healing occurs, surely it is most important that it just happens. Though I have personally witnessed physical healing through holistic healing that could not be placebo

A little publicized fact, deaths from prescription drugs far out number road deaths, yet on the RARE occasion someone dies from holistic type treatment the media is all over it like a proverbial rash.

I feel there is room for both, break a leg, see a DR, have emotional shit, go take some prescribed drugs like members of my family and be addicted for life and still not deal with the underlying problem? Not me. I'll take the "alternative" on that one thanks.

He wants money for his services.......there is the catch.
Jesus and his disciples never accepted gratuities and know one should.

Yes, but there are 5 sessions in a day - you get the 5th one free if you attend the first four.

Definitely more to this world than meets the eye, but to charge like a wounded bull smacks of American Evangelism of the 80's ?

I was told (so don't quote me) that his healing was disproved on TV which showed he was actually pulling pig entrails out of a sheet, rather than the patients body.

Doesn't the bible say it is harder for a rich man to get into heaven than a poor man ? Or does he donate his substantial earnings to charity ?

Then there's the brand new Beemer....and the fact he used to be a car salesman just tops the cake.

Placebo effect if anything, but still a rort.

Surely you're not suggesting that money is the prime interest here..?

Ask any of these types, they really don't WANT to charge so much, it's just that, well, they NEED the money to do the Lord's work!
