    V8 Supercars go 'green'..

    http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/4/...ectid=10426527

Australia's V8 Supercars are racing green this year, committing to planting thousands of trees to completely offset the carbon emissions of their high-performance vehicles.

The project will involve planting 10,000 trees at a cost of $60,000 ($68,000) and running a schools programme to send out a message about greenhouse gases and climate change.

The Supercars organisation has also committed to using five per cent ethanol, a non-fossil fuel, in its cars' fuel mix this season, starting this weekend in Adelaide.

Bit I want to rant about; He [V8 chairman Tony Cochrane] said Supercars had a fan base of three million. "We feel that if we show some leadership here and go the hard yards to make these changes to our racing programme, we can lend a real hand in getting an education message out there to all Australians that everybody can do their little part to make a difference."..

Don't think the fan base is the problem! If we had an ethanol mix at the pump, then we'd all just start using it anyway, wouldn't we..??
Does the engine have to be tuned specifically to run such a mix? And would it improve or deteriorate the performance?

Anyway, I'm goin outside to plant a tree now.
Anyone here actually done a tree planting day/weekend? it's actually quite good fun, gettin all muddy n stuff.. done a few now meself

I don't plant trees, but I eat a lot of cows, which does pretty much the same thing in terms of reducing pollution.

It's all about targetting the biggest audience isn't it? If someone brought the entire all blacks squad hybrid cars and people could see them filling up with LPG at your local servo then that'd go some way to improving it's popularity I think.

No, but I can cut them down real good. There was a secluded pohutukawa tree that was behind my house and it was a meeting place for all the local Tui's. Bloody noisy things were too difficult to hit with a .22 so I just cut the tree down.

    That will be effective...

Planting trees in Australia? Biggest drought for how many years, and they expect the trees to survive?????

It'll just promote the lesbian koala activities...

I've planted over 200 trees in the last year at my place - should make up for the cruisers gasses
