Choke question

Whenever I use the choke on my fxr the engine cuts out as soon as I stop using the choke or as soon as I twist the throttle even the tiniest amount.

Why would this be and is this normal? :spudwhat:

FXRs are notoriously lean from the factory. Go one size larger on the main jet and she'll be kewlll.

Steve just told me not to forget to advise you go up one tooth on the front sprocket. Best $25 you'll ever spend on the FXR.

Is that give you a better top end? I noticed on my mates it seems a bit low geared.

Do you think this would help warm up (don't know if that's the right term) quicker as well? It seems to take a few k's before the thing actually gets to its best. Most of the way to uni it really isn't interested in above 8000 rpm. But on the way home it goes much better

itll run better off the choke almost right away--and I diddnt change jets so its still on stockers

It surprises me the extent of differing personalities bikes have when the choke is concerned.

The Zrex is great. Full choke, hit starter, vroom! It will idle nicely on no choke after about 1 minute, when it's very cold.
Mrs H's Marauder requires full choke and a bit of deft right hand on the throttle. Won't idle on full choke for about 20 seconds (needs some throttle as well) and won't run on no choke until about 3 minutes have elapsed, when it's very cold.
My former Zeal refused to start with any choke -- even when covered with frost! The trick was a good turn of throttle, starter until it fired, a few seconds on about 2,000rpm of throttle, then pull the choke out.
Mrs H's former eliminator needed full choke and a bit of throttle to start, then happily idled away on the choke alone.

I bought my FXR new from Holeshot, and they left the jetting as stock and just set it as rich as possible. Which wasn't ideal.

Hey, question for you, WT: I haven't done the front sprocket change on my FXR. Mostly due to being a bit unsure whether the engine would still handle the 100+ kg load I put on it. I suspect most FXR riders have about a 30% weight advantage over me... do you reckon the higher gearing would still be an improvement in my case?

you get strange looks when the female is riding the bike and male on the back use to get it all the time when i was teaching the wife to ride, and i was on the back of the zzr
