Cool Just purchased GSF 1200s Bandit

    Last night I purchased a 1200 Bandit
British racing green, it’s 1998, nearly 50,000 Kms, but goes well.
Went for a ride, taking it easy and getting use to it – man it’s a nice bike to ride.
Two friends of mine have a 900 Hornet and RF 900. What I find interesting is my bike is a 1200, but according to the spec’s the Bandit is the heaviest and lowest HP.
Bandit is 98.00 HP with a Dry weight of 223.0 kg
RF has 125.00 HP with a Dry weight of 203.0 kg
Hornet has 107.28 HP with a Dry weight of 194.1 kg
I know HP isn’t always indicative of how well it goes – so we’ll see.
Given that they’re both better riders than me, I’m nearly twice their size and they have the more powerful bikes – I have a feeling I’ll still be chasing them when we go out riding.
But I loved riding the Bandit – It’s a sweet bike. Too quiet at the moment though. I was tempted to be sick from work today – and go riding
But we cant go around doing that now can we.

After market can can make a difference... mates one was always nice to ride with the standard can but he put on a Wileys from the States...

Talk about cut cat... would eat your mates bikes for breakfast...

Mine isn't as quick as his (same rectangualr headlight as yours) and mine is the newer cats eye model...

    What if....

If I upgrade the can - do I need to re jet the carbs or anything - is it as simple as just getting an aftermaket can and fitting it?

My brother had one a few years ago. An open can, dynojet kit and a less restrictive air filter will have you a fairly hefty hike in power.

It'll also see you wearing out back tyres in under 900 miles.
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

I don't think you need to worry about getting any more HP from the Bandit.

Get your suspension sorted, a set of decent tyres, and you'll see most things off at any semi legal speeds.

Have fun, but take it easy.

If you really want a lively bandit change the cams for a aircooled gsxr110 and rejet the carbs and you're away at a great rate of knots

Your right - I'm not after more power - It's got enough for me, but the bikes toooo quiet, I don't like sneeking up on cages and freeking them out as I go past. I was thinking I'd chnage the can to give it some niose.

Make sure you let us know how the comparison with the Hornet and RF go. Sounds like an interesting match up.

Congrats on the new bike. I'd have one!

A can will also knock about 8 kg off the weight and make the motor feel nicer.
For just a can,no jetting changes are necessary.Worth 15 more horsepower.
Stage 2 is remove the snorkel from the airbox and drill 50mm hole in the airbox cover, raise jetting to 127.5 from 102.5
I did 105,000 km on my first bandit. It was still quiet and tight.Change oil every 6000 km
A shock and fork spring upgrade is a good thing to do too
The bandit makes power where it counts, for road use
