Shaun,I totally agree, great exposure for us here!!Its just that age old Kiwi Aussie thing I suppose
I was so impressed with Robbie Bugden at Manfeild, never seen the place before the friday practise, saturday qualifying, was on or under the lap record
He has talent thats for sure & look forward to more trans tasman rivalry
"The road to Hell is really grippy with loads of run off & some wicked lefthanders"
And there's a bucket of talent over there!!
One of the highlights of a visit to the PI MotoGP round is Saturday's Aussie Superbikes and SuperSports racing.
I never ever imagined to see such hard, close racing.
Expect to see 5 or 6 swapping paint and the lead on every lap. On any lap the race can be lead by 5 different riders.
They ride like they play cricket. Mean and hard.
Yes,the Aussie Supers are great, but more to the point, you have four or five teenagers, riding at the front of the class, riding different brands, going Fucking hard & swapping paint, its like what our 250 Production racing used to be like
Awesome to watch & now you can see why there are a number of Aussies on the world stage at a very young age,Casey Stoney for instance
If we can get our youngsters competing with them & bring the level of our riders up,will be fantastic
Now,we just need to come up with a plan to get it done
Firstly,I think NZ & Aussie should run the same rules for classes,so it would be easier to go back & forth, look how Sam Smith has grown this year with exposure to the Aussie series

"The road to Hell is really grippy with loads of run off & some wicked lefthanders"
Didn't casey do all his early riding in Europe?
With Aus & NZ running the same rules, they were talking about it at the MNZ AGM last year - don't know what's happened though. They wanted the Aus 600 rules to come down to our level, and our superbike rules down to Aus level. Don't know the details, but the idea was there. Wonder what happened?
Yes Casey did start off in Europe
As for the MNZ details, nothing would have happened,or I know this sounds bad,but the rules will change with not enough time to be ready for either Championship,or after the bikes, parts etc have been purchased & bikes built
The competitors/Teams need at least 12 months notice of what is happening
"The road to Hell is really grippy with loads of run off & some wicked lefthanders"
I know mate, and it really pises me off. The whole fault lies with the riders them selves, and all they want to do is blaim MNZ, what a joke.
Can you recall me putting a propersition to all MNZ road race licence holders 3-5 years ago, a letter where I proposed that we form a committee and HIRE a promotor for ourselves ( The riders) I sent out over 150 letters, and I got 35 replies I think from memory, The money they would have saved by the season end with group purchase deals etc, would have more than offset the small amount of start up I asked each rider for, ( Blind fools)
This is a major part I why I find it so hard to get excited about racing here now, the same old shit on another day, riders stand around blaming MNZ for every thing they can think of.

I do not know any details about what you are talking about, but one thing I do know, and I am sure some may take this wrong or to heart, but I am used to upsetting people with FACT
The problem in New Zealand with real up and coming talent is, There is not enough riders out there who are strong enough mentally to do what ever it takes to get to the top, ( Guess that is a sign of our trendy soft O do not fart country these days) that means having a single minded vision of being a true professional motor cycle racer, and chasing that goal no matter what it takes.
I have learned a shite load about the NZ racing scene over the last 18months, and most of it has come from this board ( Wonderfull mediam, Thanks Spankme)
Every one sits around and winges about the cost of it all, instead of just going out and getting another job and getting on with it, then I have seen riders get given what A Stroud or A Slight or myself or Crafer or many others from way back would have killed for, and the riders do not even really appreciate nor understand what they have been given!
I know one thing is for sure with me and riders in the future, I will not be helping any rider who is not helping them self, I will only let myself get involved with a rider if they eat -shit -breath- Motorcycle racing, I do not have the patience for trying to help out with riders that are not prepared to give 100% FRIENDS EXCLUDED FROM THIS STATEMENT.
Dom Jones In America
Hayden Fitzgerald In the UK
Jay Lawrence- The future starts soon
These are our current International riders ( Correct me if I am wrong)
Sam Smith, He is the SHIT!! He will go all the way, why< because he can, and loves what he does as well as having a great management team around him, I would love to see a sindicate of Buisness people fund this man on his way. $ 120K NZ would buy him one of the best seats in the House in the British Supersport class or in the European Superstock class, where he could carve a real future for himself.
Brian Bernard and racing in New Zealand
With what Brian and Casey have done with there racing buisness here is fantastic and a credit to them and the sponsors that have supported there program BUT, they need to have Aussie riders on the bikes because there is not enough top riders here to fullfill these positions, and that is sad.
Peter Jones in the Sth Island and his crew, I witnessed some of the best racing I have seen in the 150 class that they race, but most of those riders are still kids, and who know's who is going to be there in the future.
So what is and where is the future of our sport coming from
I fear the day technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots! ALBERT EINSTEIN
why don't you run for MNZ??
You make some very very good points...
I'm still left wondering why after a brillent club racing scene over the winter months and early spring with apparently record entries what happened to everyone come nat's time?? I have a feeling it might have something to do with the fact you have to qualify within 115% of the fastest qualifying times...and I'm not sure many people a prepared to take the risk of traveling down to the bottom of the south island and then been told they can't race!!
the rule is a fair one from safety points of veiw...but even riders who would make those times on the tracks they know in the north island...will worry if they can or not compete at that level on tracks they don't know...
besides $$$ and time,etc....that was one of my concerns about racing in the nats this year down south.... but next year...after hearing and seeing how far some riders have come [eg:kickingzebra] over the nats....and having a over whelming case of frustration watching the racers out on pukie over the weekend wishing I was out there racing [even knowing in my head i would get slaughtered out there in production superbikes] I'm gunna just bloody do it!!
the tales of nat's series sound like fun just in its self...and experiences...learning off the top level riders...etc
Fantastic to hear Poos, that is the sort of attitude the sport needs more of
"Just go & do it"
The big problem I see with the step up from Club level to the Nationals,is not just the qualifying,It is very much a time & money thing
To do a Vic Club meeting, you can pre enter for $65.00,turn up on the day, practise, get three races & go home
The Nationals, for instance to do the South Island, you need three weeks off work, pre enter $150.00 per round, have to travel south, ferry tickets, accommodation & food for the time period,if you want to learn a new track, you need to do Friday practise another $100.00 & after all that you still think you will get your arse kicked,It is seen to be hard, but its not
What I would suggest is get a few guys together & support each other, two of you with similar ambitions, travel in a van, bus, bikes on a trailer, what ever
"JUST DO IT"
That is sort of what I have seen on this website & is great to see
If nothing else,do your local National meeting & build towards next year
Its not that hard,if you have read a few of the other threads on here with the write ups from the competitors, its FUN,you learn more, you meet some neat people
