Until the mess with the courriers is sorted Ive managed to source a rather tatty but cheap set of rs forks and yorks - which with some work will be usable. I wont be sending these off for renovation!

GB400 forks are as rare as hens teeth in these parts. I can see why it's a nice bike who would want to break one. So looks like finding forks from one is going to be a long job. The same for a bol dor caliper and brake disk.

In the short term Im looking for a RS caliper for the front wheel however I dont like the mirror mount point being moulded in the the master cylinder housing , can any sugest a common master cylinder Ican replace it with with out the mount point?

I dont know anything about brakes except I want them to work when I need them so I suspect its more technical / complex than I expect.

    cheers

Ive got a complete front brake off a CBX250rs. Ive never used it as it came with the bike and it will need a rebuild. Calper looks good but the lever will need refinishing if thats any help.

    Wow

Amazing, wrote off to Yoshi a while back and they finally got back to me.

    Had to share this....

    Dear Sir/Madam,

We are very sorry for the delay of our reply. Since we receive tons of e-mails from all over the world but our capacity is limited, sometimes we would not be able to answer soon. We are sorry for the inconvenience but please understand the circumstances.

Thank you for having interest in our product. However, it is so old that most current Yoshimura staff have never seen it. It is more than 20 years ago. We would not suppose any dealer or shop have it in stock. If someone still have the new one, he must be maniac and never release it.

Thank you for your confirmation. And, once again sorry our late reply.

    Best Regards,
    Yoshimura Japan Co., Ltd.

    Good Morning Yoshimura,

In the recent past your company manufactured a 305cc big bore kit for an 82/83 Honda CB250RS/XL250S.

May I please enquire if you still have them available and if not would you be aware of any of your dealers that might still stock this item.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Daniel Morse

    Thumbs up

your not wrong they are fun got old xl100k2 and even though its slow its really great fun just got fix it up again

think compared to 26-30HP for mine, but I imagine that the torque would be mountainous. I love singles!
i rekon gb 400 be the bomb love look these bikes esp the spoke wheeled ones
great to get gb 500 there rare though good luck with your project
take your time do things right and double check everthing your be fine
i got cafe racer book u chould have just got pictures really but no use to me its from the 70s but might give you few ideas just if you want it i send it to you
Wouldn't mind a GB400 front end, especially as my front brake is pretty inadequate (always were apparently, from new). However I really doubt I'd be able to afford it; besides, flexing and twisting from the front end is just character, right? To buy an entire front end just to make my cheap clipons fit would be a wonderfully me thing to do, however.

I'll get some calipers after the girlfriend's b'day this Sunday. [Got her on the back of the bike around some quiet local streets for the first time this week -- she had a ball and wants to ride more! So getting a single seat may be a priority ][/QUOTE]

Could I fit a xr500 barrel and piston to my engine?

I doubt it but worth the ask.

Tried it with the CB250rs motor,It can be done but you also need a 500 top engine casing and need to modify the 250 bottom engine casing.....so yeah it can be done but your better off to find a complete engine either a XR/XL/GB 500 or a 600 anything can be made too fit

    disappointed

Well I was hopping to have some progress to show you but it's been a funny year. The seat is being a real problem I dont have the facillities to work metal and dont have the skill for fibre Glass. Been let down twice by custom seat makers people have reccomended. So anybody know of anyone selling them the right size for the for fame any place in the world.

I will just have to bite the bullet and import one.

Ended up in the hospital as it turns out I had a very sever reaction to the clear coating I sprayed on the frame etc and that was after doing it outside and with a mask! So going to have to get some one else to volunteer to finish that

Going to finish this bike if it kills me

Try looking under "XRB500" from recall that was the native GB to the UK. Where as all the GB400's would be imports only. Only difference really the mag wheels.

Was just about to sleep when I stumbled on this thread. It appears to be THE worldwide RS thread now! Just read the lot, and it's now 1.45am here in England - need sleep! I just registered on the site purely for this thread and the pics. The info has been great. I've just bought a rusty 1980 250RS for £50 which is going to get some Brat treatment. Sure I'll be back here again soon. Thanks for all the info everyone! I'm posting the build as it happens here http://www.thechopperunderground.com...howtopic=63609 albeit irregularly!

    Cheers!
