Have a read and let's see what you think:
The problam Dad and I experienced was In MY OPINION due to a POOR comprehension of english, I suspect in the hearing/sounds.
Three weeks ago my old Dad happened to collapse while I was there, he had a wrist activated emergency services notification thingy, I pressed the button, expecting to have the ambulance service call back through the system, which is a hands free talk system.
After a few minutes Dad came around, I calmed him down re-assured him, but no reply from the service, so not knowing if I should pick up the phone or not, as It would block the service from calling Dads place,(me).
Dad became more aware and asked if I had pushed the button, I sais yes, about 4-5 minutes had passed, so I pick up the phone, dial 111, ask for an ambulance, a english speaking Indian-Pakistany lady in AUCKLANDS Central call unit, She asked my address, I say Wainui court Palmerston North, she tells me there is no Wainui court in Upper Hutt,???? I reiterate all again, she comes back almost verbatum,"I can not find Wainui court in Upper Hutt", (Now I am getting a tad pissed off) So I held my temper and said it all again, she again did not get it, to which I asked have you dispatched an ambo? "NO" I do not know what address to send it to,I cannot find it in Upper Hutt?(FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKK)
I hung up, right or wrong, but I hung up, Dad started to rally, I made him a cuppa and said look I will run you to the medical center, when the phone goes again :
A male from the Wellington and southern region ambulance control, asked for the address, I gave it to him, asked if an ambo had been dispatched yet, he says no: Says to me he will dispatch one and confirm the address as Waiwaka street ????????, FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK, I tell him again.
Dad is now fully conscious, and says to me :QUOTE "No one seems to get it right any more! do they boy?"
By now 45-50 minutes have passed I put Dad in the truck and take him to the Medical center, as we get to the corner at the end of his street, an Ambo, I stopped briefly, told the lady driver briefly, to which she replied put it in writting, I am so sorry, poor lady.
Now Dad said to me: Boy what if it had been a young mother with a young child really in need of emergency help, they wouldn't stand a chance.
If they come here, speak the language, and as for regional control centers, well it all comes down to cost, doesn;t it.
Shit years ago you called 111 and you got Mrs Jones, or Fred Smith, or so and so, from your own town or city, and it was never ever a problam.
Incidentally this happened on Friday the 2nd March at around 10:55 Am.
Dad was admitted into Hospital again on Monday the 5th where he spent 10 days on a drug to hopefully clear an arterial blockage, he lucked out and is now back home.
I have posted a scan of a NEws Paper article in POINTLESS DRIVEL under "Sick of Race Based Argument" can not re-attach it here:
