Angry How to change the system:

Have a read and let's see what you think:

The problam Dad and I experienced was In MY OPINION due to a POOR comprehension of english, I suspect in the hearing/sounds.

Three weeks ago my old Dad happened to collapse while I was there, he had a wrist activated emergency services notification thingy, I pressed the button, expecting to have the ambulance service call back through the system, which is a hands free talk system.

After a few minutes Dad came around, I calmed him down re-assured him, but no reply from the service, so not knowing if I should pick up the phone or not, as It would block the service from calling Dads place,(me).

Dad became more aware and asked if I had pushed the button, I sais yes, about 4-5 minutes had passed, so I pick up the phone, dial 111, ask for an ambulance, a english speaking Indian-Pakistany lady in AUCKLANDS Central call unit, She asked my address, I say Wainui court Palmerston North, she tells me there is no Wainui court in Upper Hutt,???? I reiterate all again, she comes back almost verbatum,"I can not find Wainui court in Upper Hutt", (Now I am getting a tad pissed off) So I held my temper and said it all again, she again did not get it, to which I asked have you dispatched an ambo? "NO" I do not know what address to send it to,I cannot find it in Upper Hutt?(FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKK)

I hung up, right or wrong, but I hung up, Dad started to rally, I made him a cuppa and said look I will run you to the medical center, when the phone goes again :

A male from the Wellington and southern region ambulance control, asked for the address, I gave it to him, asked if an ambo had been dispatched yet, he says no: Says to me he will dispatch one and confirm the address as Waiwaka street ????????, FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKK, I tell him again.

Dad is now fully conscious, and says to me :QUOTE "No one seems to get it right any more! do they boy?"

By now 45-50 minutes have passed I put Dad in the truck and take him to the Medical center, as we get to the corner at the end of his street, an Ambo, I stopped briefly, told the lady driver briefly, to which she replied put it in writting, I am so sorry, poor lady.

Now Dad said to me: Boy what if it had been a young mother with a young child really in need of emergency help, they wouldn't stand a chance.

If they come here, speak the language, and as for regional control centers, well it all comes down to cost, doesn;t it.

Shit years ago you called 111 and you got Mrs Jones, or Fred Smith, or so and so, from your own town or city, and it was never ever a problam.

Incidentally this happened on Friday the 2nd March at around 10:55 Am.

Dad was admitted into Hospital again on Monday the 5th where he spent 10 days on a drug to hopefully clear an arterial blockage, he lucked out and is now back home.

I have posted a scan of a NEws Paper article in POINTLESS DRIVEL under "Sick of Race Based Argument" can not re-attach it here:

Fella I would be LIVID ..I would frog march the local Mp down to my dad in Hospital and make him earn his money !

    So to speak

But its not the Indian lady in ( possibly India ,,true!!) its the fault fair and square on the centralised call system.

The only thing I could think of is give a big road near your house ..let the local ambo figure it out from there ???

If I dial 119 here in Japan ( 110 for police ) then I get the local plod /ambo
calls are routed to the nearest ambo/ police house

Ambo rides are free ( sort off , you claim back the money ) ..and you can call them even if you are worried and it aint an emergency !

Dude you have every right to be pissed off ....not at the indian woman ( side note why does it seem every decond indian is an Electronics engineer ????)

but at the dumb bunnies who put the cheap / oh thats a good idea at the time ,,,not Idea in place

    (Yes goes without saying)

There is no point complaining here as it achieves nothing but us hearing one side of a story, St John's Comm centre staff being given a bad name (weather or not it is warranted, they have no course for rebuttal on here), and possibly colouring yourself as being racist, even if that is not your intent.
Now for the rest of your post.
There are no Indian/Pakistani call takers in the Auckland Regional Communications Centre (RCC).

(Let me say I possibly could be mistaken with the ACCENT)

If you called from Palmerston North and you got Aucklands RCC it is because all 111 call takers in your region were already on calls.
How do you know it was Auckland?

Because after repeating my self the 2nd time, I asked where are you "I am In AKL SIR" don't you know where Palmerston Nth is?

Did you mean Friday the second of FEBUARY?? ( Yes because it was my first day home from work)

    I assume you meant that.
Recently (like two weeks ago) the Auckland RCC took over most of the North Island 111 calls and Ambulance dispatching. The exception is from about Waiouru south. Yes cost may be one factor among many others.

Now I am not saying it was the case with you, but often when people call the 111 line it is under times of duress,

( I realise this, and I made a deliberate effort to remain calm, due extensive "TRAINING" I did get more progressively pissed though)

and the call is not always clear, sometimes phone lines can be scratchy or cell reception dodgy, all of this can on the odd occasion lead to misunderstandings from either party.

Usually the call taker will ask for the spelling of the street

(Yes she did, yes I spelt it out)

if it is not obvious, then every street with that name in the country will come up on the screen.............

Just got a job, will finish this later
Matey you guys "I am correct arn't I "AMBO". Have my deepest respect, I am not getting at you guys at all, please lets get that clear.

Maybe you are in a position to LISTEN TO THE TAPES?.

PS: I am on leave from 06:00 hrs, and will be back in 14 days, I will endeavour to get on the computor at home, but will have to wrestle the kids and the trouble & strife.

I don't want to appear racist, although I probably am but I do get very frustrated by forign people ringing up for companies,

can they get a paperwork job or something like that I have enough trouble trying to understand them at work.

But I think if they are answering phones for any 111 service this is bad a when people ring this number they are generally under pressure or stress of some type and my not have time for sorting out what the answerer is saying.

Actually - I have a feeling that there are some bigger issues looming with the whole 111 thing lads... I'm afraid people are going to have to shift their thinking a little regarding the whole deal but can I ask who your fixed line service provider is?

    Cheers

We need to deport every immigrant who cant pass an aural english test. Not a written test of their understanding of the english langauge (hell half of US would fail), but a test where someone listens to em jabber away then says "sorry mate you cant communicate effectively, sod off home".

Wanders off to listen to S.O.D - Speak English Or Die.. Great song :-)

You can't blame the immigrants. NZ is falling apart so businesses and organisations will hire anybody to fill seats.

The problem is much deeper and it's not just emergency services. Every government agency is fucked.

Oh yeah, there's always an exception. IRD are VERY good at what they do although OSH aren't very happy with them for not using condoms.

You don't need qualifications and fluency in English to push the tea trolley around.
